The Carolina Panthers are coming off a disappointing 7-9 campaign in 2012. Carolina came into the season expecting to contend for a division title, but wound up 6-games back of Atlanta in the NFC South. Despite finishing with a losing record, there were plenty of positives to take out of last year. The Panthers lost seven games by less than a touchdown. They win just three of those seven games and were talking about a team that won 10-games last year.
Looking ahead to the 2013 season, Carolina might find it difficult to take that next step. The Panthers have the hardest schedule of any team in the league, based off their opponents record from 2012 (138-116-2). On top of their six division games, Carolina will take on the AFC East, NFC West, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.
I think we are going to find out a lot about this team right off the bat. In order to be a good team in the NFL you have to be able to win at home and take care of business on the road against teams you should beat. The Panthers have what looks like two extremely difficult home games against Seattle (Week 1) and New York (Week 3) along with three winnable road games against the Bills, Cardinals and Vikings over the first six weeks of the season. With the schedule getting tougher later in the season, I believe they have to go at least 3-2 during that stretch to have a chance at making the playoffs.
Here’s a complete look at the Panthers schedule, plus my predictions on what the odds will be for each game.
Update – Cantor Gaming has released their odds for every game of the regular season. We’ve included that line, as well as the line we projected a few weeks before these were released. We’ve also added a column to show the likelihood that the team will win the game based on the odds given from Cantor. For some reason Cantor did not offer lines for any team for Week 17 of the season, so we used our line for the Week 17 calculations.
At the very bottom of the schedule you’ll see the expected win totals posted by both Cantor Gaming and Atlantis Casino, how many wins the odds project, and a recommendation based on those expected wins.
|WEEK||OPPONENT||BOYD’S SPREAD||CANTOR SPREAD||WIN CHANCE|
|CANTOR WIN TOTAL: 7||EXPECTED WINS:||7.49|
|ATLANTIS WIN TOTAL: 7||RECOMMENDATION:||No Play|
