Jets Seahawks Odds

This Sunday the Seattle Seahawks are set to host the New York Jets in a battle between two teams headed in different directions. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 EST at CenturyLink Field and will be televised locally on CBS. Oddsmakers have listed the Seahawks as a 6-point home favorite with the total posted at 38.5 points.

Why New York Will Cover:

The Jets have had a difficult time putting anything together this season. They are just 3-5 overall and will be returning from their bye week having lost two straight and four of five overall. The fact that the Jets have had an extra week to prepare and get ready for this game is certainly something that gives them value as relatively big underdog on the road.

Seattle is certainly a popular team for bettors when they are playing at home, but this is not a team that typically beats their opponent by a wide margin. Out of the Seahawks five wins only two have come by more than four points. With New York desperately in need of a win and Seattle’s inability to blow teams out, you have to like your chances getting almost a touchdown.

Two key trends favor the Jets in this one. New York is 23-9 ATS off a home loss against a division rival since 1992, while the Seahawks are just 18-33 ATS off a home win by 10 points or more since 1992.

Why Seattle Will Cover:

The Seahawks have been one of the surprise teams early this season and a direct result of that has been their outstanding play at home. With Seattle’s 30-20 win over the Vikings as a 4.5-point favorite they are now 4-0 S.U. and 4-0 ATS at CenturyLink Field this season.

What’s been most impressive about the Seahawks dominance at home is the teams they have beat. Those four wins have come against the Cowboys, Packers, Patriots and Vikings. The only one of those teams who currently have a losing record is Dallas and they beat the Cowboys by a final score of 27-7. Given how poorly the Jets have played this season, it really wouldn’t be all the surprising to see Seattle win by double-digits.

The Seattle defense is one of the toughest units in the NFL and really seem to step up their game at home. The Jets offense isn’t anything to write home about and unless they have made some drastic changes over their bye week, I can’t see them scoring much at all in this game. What you really have to like about Seattle in this spot is how their offense stacks up with the Jets defense. New York is 29th in the league against the run, giving up 141.4 ypg on the ground. That’s really good news for the Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks 7th ranked rushing attack.

Adding even more value to Seattle is the fact that they are 6-1 ATS over their last 7 home games vs a team with a losing road record and 9-2 ATS after playing a game at home over the last 2 seasons.
