The Minnesota Vikings were one of the biggest surprises in 2012. After winning just three games in 2011, the Vikings finished 10-6, which earned them a trip to the playoffs as one of the two Wild Card teams. Their huge turnaround was a direct result of the MVP season from Adrian Peterson.
In order for the Vikings to get back to the playoffs, they are going to need better play out of quarterback Christian Ponder. Looking ahead to 2013, Minnesota will have the 10th toughest schedule in terms of how their opponents finished last year. The Vikings will take on the AFC North, NFC East, Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks along with their six division games.
Whether or not the Vikings will be a factor in the NFC North will likely come down to their early three-game homestand against the Browns, Steelers and Panthers. With back-to-back division road games to start the season against Detroit and Chicago, Minnesota will likely need to win all three of these games. After their game against the Panthers, they have a brutal 8-game stretch against teams who are all considered to be playoff contenders.
Personally I think the Vikings aren’t going to live up the hype they built from last year. You just can’t expect Peterson to put up the same type of numbers he did last year, but I’ll be the first to admit if anyone could it would be AP. I think the Vikings are looking more at an 8-8 campaign than another double-digit win season.
Here’s a complete look at the entire 2013 schedule for Minnesota, plus my predictions on the odds for each game.
Update – Cantor Gaming has released their odds for every game of the regular season. We’ve included that line, as well as the line we projected a few weeks before these were released. We’ve also added a column to show the likelihood that the team will win the game based on the odds given from Cantor. For some reason Cantor did not offer lines for any team for Week 17 of the season, so we used our line for the Week 17 calculations.
At the very bottom of the schedule you’ll see the expected win totals posted by both Cantor Gaming and Atlantis Casino, how many wins the odds project, and a recommendation based on those expected wins.
|WEEK||OPPONENT||BOYD’S SPREAD||CANTOR SPREAD||WIN CHANCE|
|CANTOR WIN TOTAL: 7||EXPECTED WINS:||7.73|
|ATLANTIS WIN TOTAL: 7||RECOMMENDATION:||OVER|
