The Oakland Raiders are coming off a difficult 2012 season, where they finished third in the AFC West with a record of just 4-12. This team really fell apart in the second half of the season, as they closed out going just 1-8 over their final nine games.
The success of the Raiders in 2013 will fall largely on the shoulders of an unproven quarterback, as they will likely turn to either Matt Flynn or a rookie. Looking at their schedule, the Raiders have the 4th easiest strength of schedule. That’s definitely a plus for a team that doesn’t figure to be a contender, but I don’t know that it’s going to translate into more wins.
Oakland is set to face the AFC South, NFC East, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers outside of division play. Just where the Raiders finish up in 2013 will depend largely on their ability to win inside the division and hold serve at home. On top of their three division home games the Raiders host the Jaguars, Redskins, Steelers, Eagles and Titans. Outside of Jacksonville, I don’t know that you could say any of those other games are close to sure thing.
There’s simply not a lot of talent on this roster for an inexperienced quarterback to succeed. I fear for Raider fans that this could be a very long season. I think the ceiling right now is 6 wins and that’s with everything going right. Here’s a look at the entire schedule for Oakland, with my projected odds for each game.
Update – Cantor Gaming has released their odds for every game of the regular season. We’ve included that line, as well as the line we projected a few weeks before these were released. We’ve also added a column to show the likelihood that the team will win the game based on the odds given from Cantor. For some reason Cantor did not offer lines for any team for Week 17 of the season, so we used our line for the Week 17 calculations.
At the very bottom of the schedule you’ll see the expected win totals posted by both Cantor Gaming and Atlantis Casino, how many wins the odds project, and a recommendation based on those expected wins.
|WEEK||OPPONENT||BOYD’S SPREAD||CANTOR SPREAD||WIN CHANCE|
|CANTOR WIN TOTAL: 5.5||EXPECTED WINS:||5.41|
|ATLANTIS WIN TOTAL: 5.5||RECOMMENDATION:||No Play|
