The Ole Miss Rebels (2-2) travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend for a tough SEC West matchup against the #1 overall Alabama Crimson Tide (4-0). Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST on Saturday, September 28th at Bryant-Denny Stadium and the game will be nationally televised on CBS.
Taking a look at the Week 5 college football odds, Alabama opened as a massive 34-point home favorite earlier this week. That line has increased by almost two full points after early betting, as the Crimson Tide are currently listed at -35.5. The total for the game is sitting at 61 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Alabama vs Ole Miss
Ole Miss dropped back to .500 on the season last weekend, falling 28-20 at home to #15 overall California to move to 2-2 overall. The Rebels trailed by just a single point at the half but couldn’t find a way to take over the lead down the stretch, getting outscored 14-7 over the final two quarters. QB Matt Corral was 22/41 for 266 yards through the air and also added another 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. WR Elijah Moore was the only Ole Miss receiver who made much of an impact, catching a team-high 11 passes for 102 yards. As a whole, the offense generated over 500 total yards but scored just two touchdowns against a tough Golden Bears defense.
The Rebels were pretty average defensively in Week 4, allowing Cal to gain well over 400 total yards of offense and score four touchdowns. Ole Miss had a very tough time trying to slow down Golden Bears QB Chase Garbers, as he threw for 357 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
Alabama cruised to yet another victory last weekend, dismantling Southern Miss 49-7 to move to 4-0 on the season overall. The Crimson Tide jumped out to an early 28-7 lead and never looked back, completely shutting out the Golden Eagles offense in the second half. QB Tua Tagovailoa was 17/21 for 293 yards and five touchdowns while RB Najee Harris chipped in with 110 rushing yards on the ground. The dynamic receiving duo of Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy had another stellar outing, combining for 244 yards and four touchdowns on just ten receptions. Overall, Alabama racked up over 500 total yards of offense and scored seven touchdowns in the win.
The Crimson Tide defense was outstanding in Week 4, holding Southern Miss to well under 250 yards of total offense and giving up just a single touchdown. Alabama was especially strong against the run, as the Golden Eagles only managed to gain 54 net rushing yards all game.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Alabama -35.5
I think the Crimson Tide offer pretty good value here at anything below -37. Alabama is currently only 2-2 against the spread over their first four games but Ole Miss has really struggled, going just 1-3 ATS over that same time span. Alabama is obviously the far superior team on both sides of the ball, especially offensively where they have scored at least 42 points in four consecutive outings. Despite the fact that they are currently getting over five touchdowns, the Rebels offense could really cost them the cover here in Week 5 – Ole Miss has scored 20 or less points in half of their games this season. Alabama has also been extremely solid on defense, holding their opponents to 10 or less points in three out of their last four games.

Ole Miss is only 1-9 against the spread over their last ten games overall. They are also a dreadful 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and just 1-8 against the spread over their last nine meetings with opponents from the SEC. On the other side, Alabama is a highly impressive 5-2 against the spread over their last seven conference battles. Ultimately, I just don’t see a way that the Rebels can find a way to score enough points to stay within five touchdowns of the Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon. I’ll lay the big number and roll with the home favorite – give me Alabama!
