This Friday the Arizona State Sun Devils will travel to San Antonio to take on the UTSA Roadrunners. Our Week 3 schedule shows kickoff is set for 9:30 EST at the Alamodome. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Oddsmakers have Arizona State laying 19-points with the over/under at 61 points.
Arizona State vs UTSA Vegas Betting Preview
The Sun Devils have won and covered each of their first two games. They rolled Northern Arizona 44-13 in the opener as a 27-point favorite. They followed it up with a 68-55 win at home against Texas Tech as a 1.5-point dog.
UTSA comes in at 1-1, but haven’t looked very good to this point. The Roadrunners won 26-13 as a 24-point home favorite against Alabama State. They then lost 14-23 at Colorado State as a 8-point dog.
Free Point Spread Pick & Game Predictions: Arizona State -19
I don’t love laying this many points on the road, but I just can’t trust UTSA in this spot. For the Roadrunners to cover this spread, they are going to have to score quite a few points. Arizona State’s offense is clicking to open the year, scoring 112 points in their first two games.

I know the Sun Devils aren’t a great defensive team, but it might not matter. UTSA only managed 14 points and 235 yards of total offense against Colorado State last week. Keep in mind that’s the same Colorado State team that gave up 44 points and 578 yards to Colorado in their opener.
It’s also worth noting they finished that game with negative 1-yard rushing. That’s not a good sign given the Rams allowed 260 rushing yards to the Buffaloes. That tells me the offensive line is a complete mess. Arizona State could live in UTSA backfield. Not only will that make it tough to score, but likely will lead to some turnovers and quick scores for the Sun Devils.
This isn’t the first time the Roadrunners have hosted a Power 5 opponent. In fact, they have done so each of the last 3 years. They have all 3 of those games by an average of 17.0 ppg. Last season they were a 16-point dog to Kansas State and lost 30-3.
Something to keep in mind with Arizona State, is they came into the season flying way under the radar. Many experts had them picked to finish in the bottom half of the Pac-12 South. Almost everyone was on Texas Tech against these Sun Devils last week.
I have feeling this team is a lot better than people think. Oddsmakers can be a little slow to adjust early in the year. I wouldn’t be shocked if Arizona State ended up being a cover machine early this season.
UTSA hasn’t been a good team to back after a loss. They are just 3-12 ATS the last 3 seasons after losing their previous game. Arizona State is 4-0 ATS after scoring 40 or more and 4-1 in their last 5 off a SU win.
If you don’t feel comfortable laying the big number on the road here, I think the OVER is a strong bet as well. Arizona State could easily score 50+ points on their own. If you do plan on backing the Sun Devils, I recommend doing so quickly. I have a feeling this line is only going to keep rising over the next couple days.
