The Washington State Cougars (3-2) travel to Tempe this weekend for a PAC-12 clash against the #18 overall Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1). Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST on Saturday, October 12th at Sun Devil Stadium and the game will be televised on the PAC-12 Network.
Taking a look at the Week 7 college football odds, Arizona State opened as a 2.5-point home favorite earlier this week. That spread has increased by half a point after early betting, as the Sun Devils are currently listed at -3. The total for the game is sitting at 58 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Arizona State vs Washington State
Washington State dropped their second game in a row their last time out, falling 38-13 to #15 overall Utah on the road to drop back to 3-2 on the season overall. The Cougars fell behind 21-13 in the second quarter and never recovered, giving up 17 unanswered points over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Anthony Gordon went 30/49 for 252 yards and a touchdown while also getting picked off twice. RB Max Borghi was the only offensive player to have a decent outing, leading the team in both rushing (51 yards on eight carries) and receiving (70 yards on nine catches). As a whole, Washington State generated just over 300 total yards and found the end zone just once against a strong Utes defense.
The Cougars defense had a rough outing against Utah, giving up over 500 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. Washington State really got exposed on the ground, allowing the Utes to rush for almost 200 yards and three touchdowns.
Arizona State bounced back nicely after losing their first game of the season to Colorado back in Week 4, slipping by Cal 24-17 on the road to improve to 4-1 on the year. The game was tied 14-14 heading into the fourth quarter and looked like it could go either way before the Sun Devils put up ten points in just 15 minutes to escape with a narrow victory. QB Jayden Daniels was 14/24 for 174 yards passing while also adding 12 carries for 84 rushing yards on the ground. RB Eno Benjamin had massive day, racking up 100 yards and three touchdowns on a game-high 29 carries. Overall, Arizona State gained almost 400 total yards of offense and found the end zone three times against the Golden Bears.
The Sun Devils were fairly solid on the other side of the ball against Cal, holding the Golden Bears to just over 200 total yards of offense and only two touchdowns. Arizona State looked especially strong defending against the pass, holding QB Chase Garbers to only 117 yards passing.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 58
This should be a highly entertaining game between two skilled PAC-12 rivals, as both programs are currently sitting above the .500 mark through Week 6 of the regular season. However, I’m really not seeing a ton of value with either team against the spread in this particular spot, as Washington State has really under-performed so far this year while Arizona State has been involved in a ton of close games despite their impressive 4-1 record overall. The Sun Devils certainly haven’t blown teams out of the water, as three out of their four wins on the season are by 12-points or less. On the other side, the Cougars defense has been terrible as of late, giving up 129 points over just their last three games combined.

I think that the optimal play in this matchup is likely the OVER on 58.5 total points scored, as Washington State has scored 50+ points in three out of their last five outings while Arizona State has scored 58 total points over their last two games combined. There has also been plenty of offensive fireworks when these PAC-12 opponents have played each other in recent history, as the total has gone OVER in four out of their last six meetings. If I had to pick a team against the spread, I’d probably roll with the slight home favorite, as they have clearly been the more consistent team up to this point of the season. However, their loss at home to Colorado back in Week 4 does still concern me a little bit, so I’m going to avoid throwing darts against the spread and roll with the OVER on 58 total points scored instead.
