The UMass Minutemen (1-8) travel to West Point, New York this weekend to face the Army Black Knights (3-6) in a battle between two Independent programs. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on November 9th at Michie Stadium and the game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

Taking a look at the Week 11 college football odds, Army opened as a massive 34.5-point home favorite earlier this week. The spread has shifted downwards by half a point after early betting, as the Black Knights are currently available at -34. The total for the game is sitting at 61.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Army vs UMass

UMass has now lost eight of their first nine games this season after getting crushed 63-21 at home against Liberty last weekend. The Minutemen gave up seven touchdowns in the first half alone en route to an embarrassing blowout defeat. QB Andrew Brito went 16/27 for 134 passing yards and two touchdowns while RB Cam Roberson chipped in with 73 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Sadiq Palmer also found the end zone on one of his four receptions for 55 yards. Overall, UMass generated just under 250 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns.

The Minutemen obviously had a horrendous outing on the other side of the ball against Liberty, getting torched for well over 700 total yards of offense and nine touchdowns. Massachusetts had no answer for Flames QB Stephen Calvert, as he went 20/27 for 474 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air.

Army lost their fourth straight game last weekend, falling 17-13 on the road against rival Air Force to drop to 3-6 on the season overall. The Black Knights fought hard all game but couldn’t hold on down the stretch, giving up a game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. QB Jabari Laws went 9/11 for 214 passing yards and a touchdown through the air while also adding 54 rushing yards and a score on the ground as well. Camden Harrison led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in three catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Army gained well over 350 total yards of offense and scored two touchdowns despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.

The Black Knights were pretty solid defensively against Air Force, holding the Falcons to just over 350 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. However, Army did struggle trying to contain RB Timothy Jackson on the ground, as he racked up 155 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 20 carries.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Army -34

While it’s hard to get all that excited about having to lay 30+ points in order to take a team that is just 3-6 on the season overall, I really feel that rolling with the Black Knights against the spread in this spot offers the most value. UMass has been absolutely dreadful so far this year, winning just one game and getting crushed by an average of close to 40 points over their eight losses. Army has also shown the ability to hang tough with some pretty tough competition throughout the first ten weeks of the season, including pushing #14 overall Michigan to overtime back in Week 2.

Massachusetts has also been terrible against the spread over their first nine games, failing to cover the number in eight out of their first nine outings. The Minutemen are also 0-4 against the spread away from home this season and 1-10 outright in their last 11 games overall. On the other side, Army hasn’t fared well at home so far this year, going just 0-4 against the spread through their first four games at Michie Stadium. Even so, a matchup with UMass appears to be just what the doctor ordered, as the Black Knights should easily win this game outright while grinding out a cover. I’ll lay the 34 points and take a shot with the massive home favorite here in Week 11 in what should be yet another blowout loss for the Minutemen. Give me the Black Knights!
