The Boise State Broncos host the Marshall Thundering Herd in Week 2 college football action from Idaho. Kickoff is set for 9:00 PM EST on Friday, September 6th at Albertsons Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

Taking a look at the Week 2 college football odds, Marshall opened as a 12-point road underdog earlier this week. That line has yet to move after early betting, as the Thundering Herd are currently listed at +12. The total for the game is sitting at 56.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Boise State vs Marshall

Marshall got off to a great start to their 2019 season in Week 1, crushing VMI 56-17 to move to 1-0 overall. The Thundering Herd were dominant on both sides of the ball, especially on offense where they scored 35 points in the first half alone. QB Isaiah Green put up 238 passing yards and four touchdowns on just 28 attempts. He also carried the ball eight times and gained 46 yards on the ground. The running back duo of Tyler King and Brenden Knox combined for 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns on ten carries total each. WR Corey Gammage also had a big game, hauling in five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown. Two other Marshall receivers manage to eclipse the 50 yard-mark too, as the passing game racked up over 300 yards in the air over four quarters en route to a sizable victory.

The Herd were also pretty solid on the other side of the ball in Week 1, holding the Keydets to just 7 points in the first half and 17 total. Marshall was dominant against the run, surrendering just 56 yards on the ground. VMI’s leading rusher, Alex Ramsey, only managed to gain 45 yards on 11 carries while also failing to find the end zone.

Boise State also got off to a good start in Week 1, edging out Florida State 36-31 after scoring ten unanswered points in the 4th quarter to emerge victorious. QB Hank Bachmeier went 30/51 for 407 yards and a touchdown, a final stat-line that was likely aided by the Seminoles jumping out to a quick 21-6 lead after the first quarter. RB Robert Mahone had a massive day on the ground, rushing for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. A couple of Broncos receivers also had a solid game, as the duo of CT Thomas and Khalil Shakir combined for 181 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, the Boise State offense was certainly effective through the air and on the ground, amassing over 600 total yards.

The Broncos had some struggles on defense against Florida State, allowing the Seminoles to score 21 points in the first quarter. However, they managed to bear down a little bit after that, limiting them to just 10 points over the final three quarters. Even so, Boise State did give up over 325 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air which is certainly a bit troubling.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Marshall +12

While I am still fully expecting Boise State to win this game, I am slightly concerned that their emotional come-from-behind victory in Week 1 may cause them to come out a little bit flat against a much less glamorous opponent. Marshall, despite winning handily, failed to cover the spread against VMI which may cause the market to overreact to the Broncos impressive win over Florida State. In other words, I’m not totally sold on the Thundering Herd getting beaten in this game by double-digits, so taking the 12-points and rolling with the road underdog currently seems like the best value.

There is no doubt that Boise State deserves a done of credit for digging deep and coming back against the Seminoles after trailing early. However, they didn’t look overly strong on the defensive side of the ball which should allow Marshall to stay within striking distance for four quarters. I’m not going to get crazy and suggest that Marshall is going to win outright on the road, especially against an electric Broncos passing offense. I just think that 12-points is a couple too many to leave on the board in what should be a close, competitive game. Give me the Thundering Herd!
