Boston College vs Connecticut Vegas Preview & Game Predictions
The Eagles saw their three-game winning streak snapped last week after a close home loss to NC State. However, BC is still 5-5 on the season and just one win in their final two games can get the Eagles to a bowl game for the fourth time in five years under head coach Steve Addazio.
Unfortunately, BC will have to get their sixth win of the season without starting quarterback Anthony Brown. After leaving last week’s game with an injury, Brown is down for the year. Senior Darius Wade, who has played sparingly over the last four years, will start against UConn.
The Huskies already know they won’t be bowling in Randy Edsall’s first year back in Connecticut. A three-game losing streak has dropped the Huskies to 3-7 on the season. However, it’s still important for UConn to build positive momentum heading into next season, especially when playing a team from a power conference.
Like BC, the Huskies have also undergone a change at quarterback recently. However, this was a voluntary move by Edsall. Senior Bryant Shirreffs has been benched with David Pendell, who started the season opener, regaining the starting job in last week’s loss to Central Florida.

I have no doubt that Boston College is the better team in this matchup. They have wins over Virginia and Florida State that would have covered this spread. But I’m leery to predict such a lopsided margin with the Eagles having to make a change at quarterback. I’ll take my chances with the Huskies being able to keep this game close and beat the spread.
To be fair, I don’t think the change at quarterback will change Boston College’s approach offensively. The Eagles will still look to run the ball up the middle with A.J. Dillon. But Wade doesn’t give them a running threat at the quarterback position the way Brown did. I also expect the UConn defense to stack the box and force Wade to throw the ball.

Of course, the UConn defense is one of the worst in the country, giving up close to 40 points per game. They’ve been lit up on more than one occasion. But they also have experience playing against teams that are more dynamic offensively than Boston College. The Huskies will do their best to avoid being pushed around by the Eagles and giving up large chunks of yards on the ground.
The UConn offense has also shown some signs of life with Pindell at quarterback. He gives the Huskies a running threat at quarterback, which they lacked with Shirreffs. Pindell also played well last week against a quality Central Florida team, helping keep the Huskies within 11 points heading into the 4th quarter. The Eagles have struggled defensively this year against teams with mobile quarterbacks, so I can see Pindell giving them trouble.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Boston College win going away and cover the spread. But I think UConn has a fighting chance to make this game competitive. The Huskies may even have a slight edge at the quarterback position. That’s enough for me to take my chances with Connecticut and the points.
