The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-0) travel to Chestnut Hill this weekend for an ACC Atlantic matchup against the Boston College Eagles (3-1). Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST on Saturday, September 28th at Alumni Stadium and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.

Taking a look at the Week 5 college football odds, Boston College opened as a 7-point home underdog earlier this week. That line has shifted by half a point after early betting, as the Eagles are currently listed at +6.5. The total for the game is sitting at 68 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Boston College vs Wake Forest

Wake Forest won their fourth consecutive game last weekend, crushing Elon 49-7 at home to move to 4-0 on the season overall. The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 28-7 lead in the first half and cruised to victory over the final two quarters after scoring 21 unanswered points. QB Jamie Newman was fantastic, passing for 351 yards and five touchdowns. RB Kenneth Walker led the way on the ground, racking up 91 rushing yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. The dynamic receiving duo of Scotty Washington and Sage Surratt also had a big outing, combining for 253 yards and four touchdowns. As a whole, Wake Forest generated over 600 total yards of offense and scored seven touchdowns against a shell-shocked Phoenix defense.

The Demon Deacons were also excellent on the other side of the ball, holding Elon to just a single touchdown on well under 200 total yards of offense. Wake Forest really did a great job against the pass, as Phoenix QB Davis Cheek was only 9/18 for 74 yards.

Boston College improved to 3-1 overall last Saturday, beating Rutgers 30-16 on the road. The Eagles were up 17-13 at the half before outscoring the Scarlet Knights 13-3 down the stretch to put the game out of reach for good. QB Anthony Brown didn’t do all that much through the air, passing for 159 yards and failing to find the end zone. However. Brown did score a touchdown on the ground while RB AJ Dillon racked up 150 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on a game-high 32 carries. Hunter Long led the way for the receiving corps despite making just three receptions for 38 yards. Overall, Boston College gained just under 450 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the victory.

The Eagles were also pretty solid defensively against Rutgers, giving up just one touchdown while also holding the Scarlet Knights to under 400 total yards of offense. Boston College was especially strong against the run, as they gave up well under 100 rushing yards and didn’t give up a single rushing touchdown.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Wake Forest -6.5

As long as this spread stays under a full touchdown, I think that the Demon Deacons offer pretty decent value in this particular spot. Wake Forest has still yet to lose a game this year, beating both Utah State, Rice, UNC, and Elon consecutively to open the season. While Boston College has also played well, I’m a bit concerned with how poorly they played at home against Kansas when they lost by over three touchdowns. It is also important to note that the Eagles have really struggled against the spread as of late, going just 2-5 ATS over their last seven games overall.

On the other side, Wake Forest is a very impressive 4-1-1 against the spread over their last six games. They are also a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four games against opponents with a winning record and 3-0-1 against the spread over their last four road games. The Demon Deacons also appear to be the more balanced team overall, as they have now allowed 21 or fewer points in three out of their last four games while Boston College has already given up 76 points over just two games combined already this year. All things considered, I think taking a shot with the road favorite is the optimal play in this matchup – I’ll lay the 6.5-points and take Wake Forest to cover on Saturday afternoon.
