The BYU Cougars (4-4) host the Liberty Flames (6-3) this weekend for a battle between two Independent programs from Provo. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST on November 9th at LaVell Edwards Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPNU.

Taking a look at the Week 11 college football odds, BYU opened as a 17-point home favorite earlier this week. The spread hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Cougars are currently available at -17. The total for the game is sitting at 58.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: BYU vs Liberty

Liberty has now won six out of their last seven games after crushing UMass 63-21 on the road last weekend to move to 6-3 on the season overall. The Flames scored seven touchdowns in the first half alone and cruised to victory from there, tacking on two more scores over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Stephen Calvert was outstanding, going 20/27 for 474 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air. RB Frankie Hickson also had a multi-touchdown performance, finding the end zone three times on the ground. The receiving duo of Antonio Gandy-Golden and Demario Douglas also got in on the scoring parade, combining for 222 receiving yards and two touchdowns. As a whole, Liberty generated well over 700 total yards of offense and scored nine touchdowns against a shell-shocked Minutemen defense.

The Flames had an average outing on the other side of the ball against Massachusetts, giving up three touchdowns despite holding the Minutemen to just over 200 total yards. Liberty struggled to contain RB Cam Roberson on the ground at times, as he scored a touchdown and averaged almost five yards per carry on a team-high 15 touches.

BYU won their second consecutive game last weekend, beating Utah State 42-14 on the road to get back to .500 on the season overall. The Cougars scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter to blow the game wide open en route to a blowout victory. QB Jaren Hall went 12/16 for 214 passing yards while Baylor Romney went 10/16 for two touchdowns through the air. Hall also found the end zone twice on the ground, hitting pay dirt on two of his seven carries for 54 rushing yards. RB Zachary Katoa led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in four catches for 129 yards. Overall, BYU gained over 600 total yards of offense and scored six touchdowns in the win.

The Cougars were also pretty impressive defensively against Utah State, holding the Aggies to two touchdowns despite giving up over 500 total yards of offense. BYU did record three interceptions despite allowing WR Jordan Nathan to rack up seven catches for 133 receiving yards.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Liberty +17

While I also really like the OVER on 58.5 total points scored in what should be a high-scoring matchup, I think that taking the 17 points and rolling with the big road underdog against the spread is the best overall value in this particular spot. Liberty has certainly held their own so far this season, winning six out of their first nine games and going 6-1 outright over their last seven outings. Even though I think that BYU will find a way to win this game outright, they definitely haven’t been blowing teams out of the water this year. In fact, three out of their four victories on the season have come by just a single field goal.

The Flames offense has really kept them competitive as of late, as Liberty has now scored a ridiculous 156 total points over just their last three games combined. Of course, their defense hasn’t been very good either, surrendering 109 total points over that same time span. If this spread moves down at all before kickoff, I will likely avoid both teams in favor of the OVER on 58.5. However, as things sit now, I’m happy to take the boatload of points and roll the dice with Liberty against the spread on Saturday evening.
