The Cal Golden Bears (5-4) host the USC Trojans (6-4) this weekend for a PAC-12 clash from Los Angeles. Kickoff is set for 11:00 PM EST on November 16th at California Memorial Stadium and the game will be broadcast on FS1.
Taking a look at the Week 12 college football odds, USC opened as a 6.5-point road favorite earlier this week. The spread hasn’t moved at all early betting, as the Trojans are currently available at -6.5. The total for the game is sitting at 47.5 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Cal vs USC
USC has now won three out of their last four games after beating Arizona State 31-26 last weekend to improve to 6-4 on the season overall. The Trojans exploded for four touchdowns in the first quarter alone and managed to hold on down the stretch despite getting outscored 13-3 in the second half. QB Kedon Slovis was fantastic, going 29/39 for 432 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air while Kenan Christon rushed for 62 yards on a team high 20 carries. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in eight catches for 173 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, USC generated around 550 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the victory.
The Trojans had an average outing on the other side of the ball against Arizona State, allowing almost 350 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. USC really had a tough time trying to slow down Sun Devils WR Frank Darby, as he made three catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Cal managed to snap a four game losing streak last weekend after upsetting Washington State 33-20 at home to improve to 5-4 on the season overall. The Golden Bears dominated both sides of the ball in the second half en route to a double-digit victory. QB Devon Modster went 16/24 for 230 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while also adding another score on the ground as well. RB Christopher Brown Jr. also chipped in, finding the end zone on one of his team-high 19 carries for 95 rushing yards. Makai Polk did a lot of damage despite making only three receptions, racking up 71 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Cal gained almost 450 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns in the win.
The Golden Bears were pretty strong defensively against Washington State, holding the Cougars to just two touchdowns despite giving up over 400 total yards of offense. Cal was fantastic defending against the run, surrendering only 16 net rushing yards all game.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 47.5
This is actually a pretty tough spot, as I feel as if both the spread and total for this PAC-12 clash on Saturday evening look pretty much bang on. While I am probably leaning more towards against USC against the spread considering the fact that they are a very solid 7-3 ATS over their last ten meetings with Cal, I really don’t feel all that strongly about it. The Trojans have also been remarkably average against the spread through their first ten games, going exactly .500 overall. Things aren’t much clearer on the other side either, as the Golden Bears are a very similar 4-5 against the spread through their first nine games.

However, the one play from this matchup that I don’t really mind is the OVER on 47.5 total points scored. Of course, Cal hasn’t been all that great on offense, scoring more than 17 points just once in their last five games. However, USC has only been involved in one game this season where both teams didn’t combine for at least 51 points. So, in nine out of their last ten outings overall, the total has gone OVER the 50-point barrier. The Trojans have also given up 82 total points in just their last two games combined. Ultimately, while this game certainly won’t turn into a shootout, I do think that both offenses should find enough success to push the total OVER 47.5 total points.
