Camellia Bowl Vegas Odds Preview: Arkansas State vs FIU
Florida International lost two out of their last three games to close out the regular season with a 6-6 record overall. However, the Panthers did upset the Miami Hurricanes 30-24 in late November to lock up a bowl appearance with their sixth win of the year. QB James Morgan led the way in that outing, going 16/30 for 160 passing yards and a touchdown through the air. RB Anthony Jones also chipped in, rumbling for 112 rushing yards and a score on a team-high 16 carries. Overall, Florida International averaged 26.5 points and just over 370 total yards of offense per outing during the season.
The Panthers were fairly average on the other side of the ball through their first twelve games, giving up almost 27 points per game. FIU really struggled to slow down their opponents on the ground at times, allowing an average of over 200 rushing yards per game.
Arkansas State saw their four game winning streak come to an end their last time out, falling 34-30 on the road against South Alabama. The Red Wolves finished the season with a very respectable 7-5 record after losing two out of three games during the month of October. On offense, Arkansas State averaged over 33 points and 430 total yards per game.
The Red Wolves ranked near the bottom of most major defensive categories during the regular season, getting lit up for an average of 35 points and almost 500 total yards of offense per outing. Arkansas State was especially poor defending against the run, surrendering almost 225 rushing yards per game.
2019 Camellia Bowl Free Betting Pick & Predictions: OVER 62.5
Both of these programs really struggled against the spread during the regular season, as Florida International went just 4-8 ATS while Arkansas State was only 5-7 ATS. There doesn’t appear to be a lot separating either side in this particular matchup, which makes me not all that interested in throwing darts against an efficient spread. However, I don’t mind the OVER on 62.5 total points, especially considering that both offenses combined to average close to 30 points per game through their first twelve outings. Neither defense was all that impressive this year either, although Arkansas State in particular really struggled to keep opposing teams out of the end zone.

It is also important to note that the total has now gone OVER in 12 out of Florida International’s last 18 games overall – including four out of their last six games away from Riccardo Silva Stadium. On the other side, the OVER has also come through in six out out of Arkansas State’s last nine outing overall. Finally, the OVER has hit five out of the last seven times that the Red Wolves were favored against the spread prior to kickoff. I’m going to avoid both teams against a tough spread in favor of the OVER on 62.5 total points scored in what should be a very evenly matched 2019 Camellia Bowl.
