Camping World Bowl Vegas Odds Preview: Notre Dame vs Iowa State
Iowa State couldn’t find a way to close out the regular season with three consecutive victories, falling 27-17 on the road against Kansas State to finish the year 7-5 overall. The Cyclones gave up ten unanswered points over the final 15 minutes of the game en route to a double-digit defeat. QB Brock Purdy struggled at times, going 15/30 for 185 passing yards and just one touchdown through the air. RB Breece Hall led the way on the ground, rushing for 59 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 18 carries. Overall, Iowa State averaged 34 points and over 450 total yards of offense per game through their first 12 outings.
The Cyclones were fairly average on the other side of the ball this year, giving up around 25 points and 350 total yards of offense per game. Iowa State did do a pretty good job limiting their opponents yardage on each individual down, allowing only 5.23 yards per play.
Notre Dame only lost two games during the regular season, finishing 10-2 overall after reeling off five straight wins down the stretch. The Fighting Irish really put on a show offensively their last time out, crushing Stanford on the road 45-24 for their tenth win of the year. QB Ian Book went 17/30 for 255 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air while RB Tony Jones Jr. rushed for a team-high 50 yards on 14 carries. Cole Kmet and Chase Claypool led the way for the receiving corps, combining for 140 yards and two touchdowns. As a whole, Notre Dame averaged 37 points and over 425 total yards of offense per game during the regular season.
The Fighting Irish were also quite strong defensively this year, holding their opponents to under 20 points and 325 total yards of offense per game. Notre Dame was fantastic defending against the pass, allowing only 164 yards per game through the air.
2019 Camping World Bowl Free Betting Pick & Predictions: OVER 54
I really don’t have a strong lean against the spread in this particular spot, as either team could find a way to win this matchup outright. While I’m probably leaning just slightly towards taking the points and rolling with Iowa State, the fact that they only went 6-6 ATS during the regular season is at least somewhat alarming. Therefore, my favorite play from the 2019 Camping World Bowl is the OVER on 54 total points in what could turn out to be a high-scoring battle. Both schools averaged over 34 points per game on offense during the regular season, which certainly bodes well for the likelihood of a lot of scoring on Saturday afternoon.

I really can’t see myself rolling the dice with the Cyclones against the spread, as Notre Dame is a rock-solid 4-1 ATS over their last five games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five outings as a favorite. However, they have been involved in plenty of high-scoring bowl games over the past decade or so, as the total has now gone OVER in six out of their last nine outings during the month of December. I’ll avoid throwing darts against an efficient spread in favor of the OVER on 54 total points scored.
