Chargers vs Packers Game Odds & Betting Preview

Green Bay Packers

The Packers won their fourth consecutive game last weekend, beating Kansas City 31-24 on the road on Sunday Night Football Browns to improve to 7-1 on the season overall. Green Bay scored 14 unanswered points but still needed a two touchdown performance in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory. QB Aaron Rodgers went 23/33 for 305 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while also adding 29 rushing yards on the ground. RB Aaron Jones was a beast out of the backfield, racking up well over 200 all-purpose yards and finding the end zone twice. Jamaal Williams scored the other two touchdowns for the offense, as it was the ground attack that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard. Overall, the Packers generated well over 400 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns against a shell-shocked Kansas City defense.

Green Bay was fairly average defensively against the Chiefs, giving up over 350 total yards of offense and three touchdowns.  However, the Packers did a good job shutting down Kansas City on the ground, allowing only 88 rushing yards all game.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers snapped a three game losing streak last weekend, slipping by Chicago 17-16 on the road to improve to  3-5 on the season overall. Los Angeles trailed 16-10 at the end of the third quarter but found a way to pull of a fourth quarter comeback to escape with the victory. QB Phillip Rivers went 19/29 for 201 passing yards and a touchdown through the air while Melvin Gordon found the end zone on the ground despite rushing for only 31 yards on eight carries. Mike Williams led the way for the receiving corps, making three catches for 69 yards. As a whole, the Chargers offense gained less than 250 total yards against a strong Bears defense.

Los Angeles had a very solid outing on the other side of the ball in Week 8, holding the Bears to just one touchdown despite giving up more than 400 total yards of offense. The Chargers were especially tough against the pass, as they didn’t allow a touchdown through the air and also recorded an interception.

Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: Packers -3.5

Even though this spread has moved up by half a point after early betting, I’m still drawn towards Green Bay against the spread here in Week 9. The Packers have been impressive on both sides of the ball so far this season, winning seven out of their first eight games and really appearing to take leaps forward defensively. While Los Angeles has also played well at times, they are still too inconsistent to trust against in this particular spot despite getting to play at home. Of course, their tough road win last weekend in Chicago should give them confidence moving forward. However, it is also important to remember that this is still the same team that lost consecutive games against Denver, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee in October.

Green Bay has really dominated the Chargers against the spread as of late, covering the number in five out of their last six meetings overall. The Packers are also 6-2 against the spread over their last eight games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. On the other side, Los Angeles is a brutal 0-7 outright over their last seven meetings with Green Bay – including an embarrassing 0-6 record at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Chargers are also only 0-5-1 ATS in their last six home games overall as well. I’ll lay the 3.5 points and roll with the road favorite in this inter-conference clash – give me the Packers to cover!
