Chargers vs Vikings Game Odds & Betting Preview

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have now won three out of their last four games after beating Detroit 20-7 at home last weekend to improve to 9-4 on the season overall. Minnesota jumped out to an early 17-0 lead in the first half and cruised to victory down the stretch despite scoring just a single field goal on offense over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Kirk Cousins went 24/30 for 242 passing yards and a touchdown through the air while RB Dalvin Cook rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 18 carries. Stefon Diggs led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in six catches for 92 yards. Overall, the Vikings generated over 350 total yards of offense and found the end zone twice in the win.

Minnesota was very solid defensively against the Lions, giving up under 300 total yards of offense and just a single touchdown. The Vikings were especially impressive defending against the run, allowing only 70 net rushing yards the entire game.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers managed to snap a three game losing slide last weekend, crushing Jacksonville 45-10 on the road to improve to 5-8 on the season overall. Los Angeles scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter and never looked back, tacking on three more touchdowns over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Philip Rivers was fantastic, going 16/22 for 314 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air. RB Austin Ekeler absolutely torched the Jaguars defense, racking up well over 200 all-purpose yards and finding the end zone once. TE Hunter Henry also got in on the scoring parade, hitting pay dirt on one of his two catches for 39 receiving yards. As a whole, the Chargers gained well over 500 total yards of offense and scored six touchdowns in the blowout win.

Los Angeles also had a fantastic outing on the other side of the ball against the Jaguars, surrendering under 300 total yards of offense and just one touchdown. The Chargers really did a great job shutting down Leonard Fournette on the ground, as they held him to just 3.3 yards per carry.

Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: Vikings -1

I’m slightly hesitant about this particular matchup, as I really think Minnesota should win this game outright with relative ease. The fact that the spread has moved the other way leaves me somewhat concerned, especially with the Vikings offense also due to get a boost with Adam Thielen set to return to the lineup after missing over a month of action. It really does seem like I must be missing something, as money has clearly been pouring in on the Chargers side. Even so, I still think I’d rather take my chances with the Vikes in this spot in a game they need to win if they hope to have any shot at catching Green Bay in the NFC North.

While a lot is being made of the fact that Minnesota is a very pedestrian 3-4 outright away from home so far this season, it is also important to note that the Chargers are a brutal 1-4-1 against the spread over their first six home games. Los Angeles is also just 4-8-1 through their first 13 games overall, which certainly doesn’t bode for them against a Vikings team that currently has a winning record against the spread. Minnesota has also dominated this particular matchup over the past decade or so, going a perfect 3-0 against the spread over their last three battles with the Chargers. I’ll happily lay the point and roll with the slight road favorite – give me the Vikings to cover!
