The #1 overall Clemson Tigers (3-0) host the Charlotte 49ers (2-1) in Week 4 college football action from Death Valley. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST on Saturday, September 21st at Memorial Stadium and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.

Taking a look at the Week 4 college football odds, Clemson opened as a massive 41-point home favorite earlier this week. That line has yet to move at all after early betting, as the Tigers are currently listed at -41. The total for the game is sitting at 62 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Clemson vs Charlotte

Charlotte got back above .500 on the season last weekend, beating UMass 52-17 at home to move to 2-1 overall. The 49ers offense game out flying, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter to put the game out of reach early. QB Chris Reynolds played well, going 10/12 for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Ben Lemay and Aaron Mcallister had both had big games on the ground, combining for over 200 rushing yards and a touchdown. WR Tyler Ringwood only recorded two receptions but he certainly made them count, as both resulted in touchdowns. As a whole, Charlotte racked up over 500 yards of total offense and scored six touchdowns.

The 49ers defense didn’t have to do all that much against UMass, as the Minutemen gained less than 300 total yards of offense and scored just one touchdown. Charlotte was especially strong against the run, yielding under 150 rushing yards and not allowing a touchdown on the ground.

Clemson currently sits at 3-0 overall after crushing Syracuse 41-6 on the road last weekend. The Tigers only led 17-6 at the half but exploded over the final thirty minutes, scoring 24 unanswered points. QB Trevor Lawrence didn’t have his best outing despite throwing for almost 400 yards and three touchdowns, as he also got picked off twice. Chez Mellusi and the aforementioned Lawrence both made trips to the end zone on the ground, while WR Amari Rodgers had four receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Overall, the Clemson offense racked up almost 500 total yards and scored five touchdowns.

The Tigers defense was extremely solid yet again in Week 3, holding Syracuse to just six points on less than 200 total yards of offense. Clemson was especially tough against the run, as the Orange gained just 15 net rushing yards the entire game.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Clemson -41

I’m most likely going to steer clear of this matchup entirely on Saturday night, as laying 41 points with the Tigers doesn’t scream value to me. A lot has been made of the Charlotte offense over the past few days, as the 49ers have scored at least 41 points in three consecutive games. However, just because they had a ton of success against Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State, and UMass, it still doesn’t mean that even an ounce of that high-scoring ability will translate to anything significant against a powerful Tigers defense. Clemson is giving up an average of just ten points per game and has scored over 115 points in just three games. I am pretty tempted by this boatload of points, but I really can’t side with the 49ers until I see how they stack up against an average opponent – let alone the #1 overall team in the nation.

The Tigers have also performed pretty well against the spread as of late, going 5-1 ATS over their last six games overall. They are also a very solid 7-3 ATS in their last ten meetings with opponents who have a winning record. While Charlotte has played well in their own conference, they have really struggled against the spread over their last 17 non-conference games, going just 5-12 over that span. Again, while there’s no way I believe that this particular spot offers any sort of value or is a game-theory optimal play, I still think that Clemson covering this massive spread is the likeliest outcome on Saturday night. Give me the Tigers.
