A couple of teams looking to get back on track meet this weekend when the Tennessee Titans visit the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff is at 1:00 EST on Sunday, October 8 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The game can be seen on CBS in local markets.

The latest betting line has the Titans as 3-point favorites on the road. However, not everyone is taking action on the game because of the uncertainty over the health of Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota. Click here for a full list of the Week 5 betting odds and links to more game previews.

Titans vs Dolphins Vegas Betting Preview

There’s no official word, but if you read between the lines, it doesn’t appear that Mariota is going to play this week. The Titans have said they’re going to be careful with their franchise quarterback, which is obviously a wise decision. If Mariota can’t go, Matt Cassell will start after going 4 for 10 with two interceptions against the Texans last week.

Of course, Mariota’s health may not be the biggest problem facing the Titans. Last week, Houston amassed 445 yards of offense and 57 points against the Titans. Along the way, Tennessee committed five turnovers, which certainly didn’t help. Whether Mariota plays or not, the Titans need to get things sorted out on the defensive side of the ball.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins aren’t in great shape either. Perhaps bringing Jay Cutler wasn’t such a good decision, as Miami has a total of six points over the last two weeks. Defensively, the Dolphins have more than held their own this season. But Cutler has not helped the Dolphins find the end zone nor has Miami’s running game established itself.

Free Pick & Point Spread Predictions: Dolphins +3

Whether Mariota plays or not, I’ll lean toward the Dolphins. A home underdog in the NFL is usually a decent bet. I also prefer to the team with the better defense, and that’s Miami.

One aspect of this game that’s being overlooked is the fact that this is Miami’s first home game of the season. After having their Week 1 game canceled, the Dolphins played on the road twice and played in London last week. Despite a couple dreadful offensive performances the last two weeks, the Miami fanbase should be excited to see the team come home, which should give the Dolphins a lift.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Mariota has been a little erratic this season, even before his health was a concern. On the season, he has as many interceptions as he does passing touchdowns. He’s also completed just 60% of his passes, which is less than ideal.

In the event Cassel starts, the Titans are definitely going to be in trouble. In less than a full game last week, he turned the ball over three times. To be fair, the Titans were playing from behind all game, but that doesn’t fully excuse his poor performance. Even with a week of practice time, Cassel may not do much better, especially against a tough Miami defense.

Obviously, this is a tough game to call. But Miami has enough offensive talent to get things going against a defense that gave up 50 points last week. With the Dolphins coming home for the first time this year and having a quality defense, Miami with three points is the smart play in this game.
