The Pitt Panthers (3-2) head to Durham this weekend to face the Duke Blue Devils (3-1) in an ACC Coastal clash. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM EST on Saturday, October 5th at Wallace Wade Stadium and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.

Taking a look at the Week 6 college football odds,  Duke opened as a 5-point home favorite earlier this week. That spread has shifted by just half a point after early betting, as the Blue Devils are currently listed at -5.5. The total for the game is sitting at 48 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Duke vs Pitt

Pitt moved back above .500 on the season last weekend, slipping past Delaware 17-14 at home to move to 3-2 overall. The Panthers were up by a field goal at the half and managed to retake the lead down the stretch after giving up seven unanswered points in the third quarter. QB Nick Patti was 23/37 for 271 yards and two touchdowns while RB Todd Sibley Jr. scampered for 106 rushing yards on a game-high 22 carries. The standout performance on offense came from Taysir Mack, who exploded for 124 receiving yards and a touchdown on just five catches. As a whole, Pitt racked up just under 450 total yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory.

The Panthers had a very solid outing on the other side of the ball in Week 5, holding the Fightin’ Blue Hens to well under 200 yards of total offense and giving up just two touchdowns. Pittsburgh was especially strong against the run, limiting Delaware to only 45 net rushing yards and not allowing a single rushing touchdown.

Duke has now won three consecutive games following their Week 1 loss against #1 overall Alabama, as they crushed Virginia Tech 45-10 on the road last Friday to move to 3-1 on the season overall. The Blue Devils trailed by a field goal at the end of the first quarter but dominated both sides of the ball from the second quarter forward, outscoring the Hokies 45-7 over the final 45 minutes. QB Quentin Harris played well, going 20/27 for 163 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air. Harris also led the way on the ground for Duke, rushing for 100 yards and a score on 17 carries. Noah Gray also had a multi-touchdown outing, finding the end zone twice and recording 50 receiving yards. Overall, the offense gained over 400 total yards and scored six touchdowns against a below average Virginia Tech defense.

The Blue Devils looked fantastic defensively in Week 5, holding the Hokies offense to just over 250 total yards and a single touchdown. Duke really did a great job defending against the pass in particular, only giving up 120 yards through the air all game.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Pitt +5.5

This ACC Coastal clash should be highly entertaining, as both of these programs have been pretty solid to start the season and still have a lot to play for in a very evenly matched conference. While Duke certainly sits just behind Virginia, the Blue Devils are just one game up on UNC for second place. On the other side, the Panthers are 0-1 so far in conference play thus far despite being above .500 on the season overall. They really need to avoid dropping to 0-2, so I think they will go all out on the road on Saturday evening in a game that they really need to keep pace in the standings. I really think this matchup could go either way, so leaving over five points on the board in what should be a back and forth affair seems somewhat sub-optimal in this particular spot.

Pittsburgh has also dominated this conference rivalry as of late, going 4-1 against the spread over their last five meetings with the Blue Devils. They are also 5-1 straight up in their last six meetings, which certainly bodes well for them heading into a critically important showdown on the road. Throw in the fact that the Panthers are 10-4 ATS over their last 15 games overall, and I’m more than happy to take all the points and roll the dice with the road underdog – especially considering that Duke is only 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games. Give me Pitt to cover the spread and possibly win outright!
