Eagles vs Lions Vegas Odds Preview
Philadelphia (3-0) will return from their bye looking to remain undefeated. The only other teams in the league without a loss are the Vikings and Broncos. Last time out the Eagles demolished the Steelers 34-3 as a 3.5-point home dog.
Detroit (1-3) will be looking to snap a 3-game losing streak, as they lost 14-17 at Chicago last week. The Lions only win of the season came in a 39-35 Week 1 win at Indianapolis.
These two teams did play last year in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. The Lions made easy work of the Eagles in that one, winning 45-14 as a mere 3-point home favorite.
Free Point Spread Pick & Betting Predictions: Eagles -3
I know this line looks too good to be true, but I have to lean towards Philadelphia in this one. I just get the feeling the books aren’t quite ready to give the Eagles credit for their 3-0 start. I think it’s a mistake. Philadelphia is clicking on both sides of the ball and aren’t going to take this game lightly.

I know revenge isn’t a huge factor in the NFL, but I believe it’s in play here. The players who were here last year, certainly haven’t forgot about last year’s loss to the Lions. Detroit embarrassed them by 31-points in front of a nationally televised audience on Thanksgiving.
Not only do I think the Eagles come out with a chip on their shoulder, but they are returning from their bye. Philadelphia has had two full weeks to prepare for this game and I expect a strong showing.
The same can’t be said for the Lions. Detroit has already lost at home to the Titans and last week couldn’t beat an injury plagued Bears team. Both of which are 1-3 after 4 games. Their only win is against a bad Colts team, who is also just 1-3.
The Lions once again are one-dimensional offensively. Detroit ranks 6th in passing (283.8 ypg) and 22nd in rushing (92.2 ypg). A lot of attention for the Eagles is focused on Wentz, but the defense deserves just as much credit for their 3-0 start. Philadelphia ranks 3rd in the NFL in total defense (274.3 ypg). They are 3rd against the run and 6th against the pass.
Say what you want about the Steelers overlooking the Eagles after their big win over the Bengals. The Eagles made life miserable for one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Ben Roethlisberger was just 24 of 44 for 257 yards. Keep in mind that he’s thrown for 3 or more touchdowns in every other game he’s played this season. I think Matthew Stafford is in for a long day.
On the flip side of this, there’s little reason to believe the Lions are going to solve the Wentz puzzle. Detroit has been one of the worst teams in the league defensively through 4 games. The Lions rank 23rd against the run (114.5 ypg) and 21st against the pass (271.8 ypg). Opposing teams are rushing for 4.8 yards/carry and completing 70.7% of their pass attempts.
Keep in mind the Eagles will be getting back a huge piece of their offense this week. Starting tight end Zach Ertz will be back in action after missing the last two games. Ertz was a big part of the offense in Week 1, catching 6 passes for 58 yards. Just another weapon the Lions defense has to worry about.
It’s also worth pointing out that it’s not like Wentz is just targeting one guy. He’s spreading the ball around to a number of guys. Same thing goes in the running game, where 4 different backs have 10+ plus carries. It makes it really hard to prepare for and the Eagles already have a huge edge in that department off their bye.
