The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-8) travel to Greenville, South Carolina this weekend for an American Athletic Conference clash with the ECU Pirates (4-7). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on November 30th at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
Taking a look at the Week 14 college football odds, East Carolina opened as a 5-point home underdog earlier this week. The spread has moved up by half a point after early betting, as the Pirates are currently available at +5.5. The total for the game is sitting at 60.5 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: East Carolina vs Tulsa
Tulsa has now lost four out of their last five games after falling 24-14 at home against Houston last weekend to drop to 3-8 on the season overall. The Golden Hurricane jumped out to an early lead but gave up 14 unanswered points in the second quarter and never recovered, scoring just a single touchdown over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Zach Smith certainly wasn’t at his best, going 29/45 for 381 passing yards and a touchdown but also getting picked off twice. RB Shamari Brooks couldn’t find any running room on the ground, rushing for just 22 yards on a team-high nine carries. Keylon Stokes and Sam Crawford Jr. ran circles around the Cougars secondary, combining for 246 receiving yards and a touchdown on 19 catches. Overall, Tulsa gained under 400 total yards of offense and found the end zone just twice in the loss.
The Golden Hurricane had a solid outing on the other side of the ball against Houston, surrendering well under 250 total yards of offense and a single touchdown. Tulsa really did a great job defending against the pass, allowing only 100 yards through the air.
East Carolina snapped a five game losing slide last weekend, beating Connecticut 31-24 on the road to improve to 4-7 overall. The Pirates took a 17-7 lead in the first half and a managed to hang on down the stretch despite getting outscored 17-14 over the final two quarters of the game. QB Holton Ahlers had an up and down game, throwing two interceptions but also going 34/50 for 374 passing yards and a touchdown. RB Darius Pinnix torched the Huskies on the ground, racking up 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Zech Byrd was on the receiving end of the only passing touchdown of the game for the offense, hitting pay dirt on one of his three catches for 43 yards. As a whole, East Carolina generated well over 500 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the victory.
The Pirates weren’t that great defensively against UConn, giving up over 500 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. ECU had no answer for Huskies WR Cameron Ross, as he exploded for 169 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 60.5
I really don’t see a ton of value with either side against the spread in this American Athletic Conference showdown, as the number looks pretty efficient to me overall. While I am somewhat tempted by the 5.5 points and the home underdog, Tulsa’s 3-8 record is pretty deceptive. They could easily be 5-6 or even better, as they lost to #17 overall Memphis by just a single point just a couple of weeks after losing a heart-breaker in overtime against SMU. Therefore, my favorite play in this matchup is the OVER on 60.5 on total points scored, as both offenses should be able to find some success against a couple of below average defenses.

These two teams have also had their fair share of high-scoring battles over the past several years, combining for at least 69 total points in two out of their last three meetings. It is also important to note that the OVER has come through in four out of East Carolina’s last five games overall and in four out of their last five conference games as well. On the other side, the OVER has hit in four out of Tulsa’s last six meetings with the Pirates. I’m going to avoid throwing darts against a tough spread in favor of the OVER on 60.5 total points scored in this American Athletic Conference clash on Saturday afternoon.
