The UNLV Rebels (2-4) head to California this Friday for a Mountain West showdown with the Fresno State Bulldogs (2-3). Kickoff is set for 10:00 PM EST on October 18th at Bulldog Stadium and the game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.

Taking a look at the Week 8 college football odds, Fresno State opened as a 13.5-point home favorite earlier this week. That spread has increased by over a full point after early betting, as the Bulldogs are currently listed at -15. The total for the game is sitting at 55 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Fresno State vs UNLV

UNLV finally snapped their four game losing streak last weekend, beating Vanderbilt 34-10 on the road to improve to 2-4 on the season overall. The Rebels jumped out to a 24-10 lead in the first half and never looked back, completely shutting out the Commodores offense over the final two quarters en route to a double digit victory. QB Kenyon Oblad went 11/16 for 172 yards and two touchdowns through the air while RB Chad Magyar racked up 116 yards and a touchdown on a game-high 22 carries. The receiving duo of Randal Grimes and Noah Bean also chipped in, combining for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Overall, UNLV generated well over 350 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the win.

The Rebels also had a very strong game on the other side of the ball against Vanderbilt, giving up barely over 300 total yards of offense and just one touchdown. UNLV was fantastic defending against the pass, limiting the Commodores to 140 yards through the air while also forcing an interception.

Fresno State saw their modest two game winning streak come to an end in Week 6, falling 43-24 on the road against Air Force to drop back below the .500 mark. The Bulldogs held a 24-22 lead at the half but couldn’t hold on down the stretch, giving up 21 unanswered points in the second half. QB Jorge Reyna was 20/27 for 209 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while Ronnie Rivers found the end zone on one of his nine carries for 45 yards. Emoryie Edwards also had a strong outing, hauling in four receptions for 73 yards and a score. As a whole, Fresno State gained just under 300 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns.

The Bulldogs had a rough outing defensively against the Falcons, giving up well over 400 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. Fresno State got torched on the ground by the run-heavy Air Force offense, allowing over 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: UNLV +15

This Mountain West battle between UNLV and Fresno State actually looks quite interesting, as both of these teams have certainly had their share of struggles to start the year but appear to be somewhat evenly matched. Now that this spread has moved to over two full touchdowns, I think it’s actually the Rebels who offer the best value in this spot. UNLV should have a ton of confidence after a solid road win over Vanderbilt in Week 7. Fresno State didn’t look good in their last outing, losing by almost three touchdowns to Air Force. The Bulldogs also haven’t really blown out either of the two opposing team in their victories this year either, winning by two touchdowns or less both times.

The Rebels have also fared quite well against the spread when facing Fresno State as of late, going 4-2 ATS in their last six meetings. The Bulldogs are only 1-3-1 ATS through their first six games of the season and have given up 80 points over their last three outings combined. Although I certainly think that Fresno State should be able to win outright at home on Friday night, I think the Rebels have a decent shot at staying within two touchdowns. I’m going to take the points and roll with the road underdog to cover the spread in this Mountain West clash – give me UNLV!
