Taking a look at the Week 12 college football odds, Georgia Tech opened as a 5.5-point home underdog earlier this week. The spread has increased by a full point after early betting, as the Yellow Jackets are currently available at +6.5. The total for the game is sitting at 51 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Georgia Tech vs Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech has now won four out of their last four games after beating Wake Forest 36-17 at home last weekend to improve to 6-3 on the season overall. The Hokies put up 17 points in the third quarter and never looked back, cruising to a double-digit victory over the final 15 minutes of the game. QB Hendon Hooker went 15/23 for 242 passing yards through the air while also rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Deshawn McClease also chipped in, rushing for 59 yards and two scores on a team-high 17 carries. Damon Hazelton Jr. led the way for the receiving corps, making seven catches for 86 yards. Overall, Virginia Tech generated almost 500 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns in the win.

The Hokies were pretty decent on the other side of the ball against Wake Forest, holding the Demon Deacons to just over 300 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. Virginia Tech was especially strong defending against the run, allowing only 63 net rushing yards.

Georgia Tech lost their second straight game last weekend, falling 33-28 on the road against Virginia to drop to just 2-7 on the season overall. The Yellow Jackets fought hard all game but couldn’t find a way to pull off a comeback over the final two quarters after trailing 24-21 at the half. QB James Graham went 15/22 for 229 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air but also threw a costly interception as well. RB Jordan Mason led the way on the ground, rumbling for 94 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 19 carries. Ardell Brown was on the receiving end of the only passing touchdown of the game for the offense, hitting pay dirt on a 59-yard strike from Graham. As a whole, Georgia Tech gained well over 350 total yards of offense and scored four touchdowns despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.

The Yellow Jackets struggled defensively against Virginia, surrendering over 400 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Georgia Tech had no answer for Cavaliers QB Bryce Perkins on the ground, as he ran for over 100 yards and also added a rushing touchdown.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Virginia Tech -6.5

I think that Virginia Tech offers the best value against the spread in this ACC Coastal showdown, as the Yellow Jackets are a brutal 2-6-1 ATS through their first nine games this season. Georgia Tech has also really struggled at home this year, failing to cover number in three straight games at Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Hokies could easily be an AP Top 25 team right now, as they only lost by a single point on the road against #16 overall Notre Dame at the beginning of November. As long as this spread stays below a full touchdown, I’m happy to lay the 6.5 points and roll with the road favorite on Saturday afternoon.

It is also important to point out that Virginia Tech has really performed well against the spread in recent weeks, going a rock-solid 4-1 ATS over their last five outings. While the Hokies have lost three straight games against Georgia Tech, this current Yellow Jackets team has really taken a big step back this season. They could easily be 0-9 on the year, as they needed overtime to beat Miami and only beat USF by four points back in early September. I’m going to take a shot with the Hokies against the spread in this spot, as they should find a way to win outright while also grinding out a tough road cover. Give me Virginia Tech!
