Idaho vs Georgia State Game Preview & Betting Odds

The Vandals lost a close game against New Mexico State last weekend, falling 17-10 after struggling offensively yet again. QB Colton Richardson appeared in his first game of the season and threw for 167 yards and one touchdown. However, Richardson barely completed over 50% of his passes and also threw an interception. Idaho’s usual starting quarterback, Matt Linehan, is on the injury report again this week (wrist) and is currently listed as questionable. As a whole, the Vandals offense has looked dreadful pretty much all season long- Idaho is currently averaging just 20.6 points per game (116th overall). Their play on the other side of the ball has been slightly better, as the Idaho defense is currently ranked 72nd overall after allowing opponents to average 27.2 points per game.

Georgia State lost 31-10 to Appalachian State 31-10 to drop to 6-4 overall on the year. The Panthers struggled on both sides of the ball against the Mountaineers and couldn’t really find a way to get any momentum going all game long. QB Connor Manning barely eclipsed 200 yards passing and threw one interception while also being unable to find the end zone. However, Manning has looked solid for most of the year, passing for over 2,500 yards and adding 13 touchdowns. WR Penny Hart has also had a fantastic season, recording 1,000+ receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. Manning and Hart lead the way for this Georgia State passing attack that is currently ranked 31st overall nationwide. On the other side of the ball, the Panthers defense is giving up an average of 25.6 points per game (56th).

Free College Football Against the Spread Pick: Idaho +4

This is kind of a tough spot, as Idaho really has nothing to play for while Georgia State has already clinched a spot in a bowl game and doesn’t really have any sense of urgency. The Vandals quarterback situation is also still up in the air, although it is starting to sound like Matt Linehan is closer to doubtful than questionable. Colton Richardson looked average at best last weekend and Idaho looked lost offensively for much of the game. In spite of all that, I think the Vandals defense will keep this game close

Idaho is 4-0 ATS over their past four games against teams with a winning record. They are also 5-0 ATS in their last five road games against teams with a winning record at home. Finally, the Vandals are 8-2 ATS in their last ten games following a straight up loss. Georgia State is 1-4 ATS over their past five games and just 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games.

Over their past four games, the Vandals defense has allowed opponents to score an average of just 19 points. The Panthers have averaged just 20.7 points per game so far this season and are entirely one-dimensional on offense. Ultimately, I think that they will still find a way to grind out a win at home on Saturday. However, Idaho has lost their last three games by 3, 6, and 7 points respectively. Georgia State doesn’t really have anything to play for and I think the Vandals find a way to cover.
