Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Vegas Odds Preview: Nevada vs Ohio
Ohio reeled off back to back victories down the stretch to lock up a spot in a bowl game after starting the year 4-6. The Bobcats absolutely destroyed Akron their last time out, winning 52-3 on the road. QB Nathan Rourke was fantastic, going 20/28 for 308 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air. Tyler Walton and Shane Hooks led the way for the receiving corps, combining for 163 yards and two touchdowns. As a whole, Ohio averaged 35 points and 440 total yards of offense per game through their first 12 outings.
The Bobcats were below average on the other side of the ball this year, giving up 27 points and over 400 total yards of offense per game. Ohio often was exposed by opposing offenses on the ground, allowing 178 rushing yards on a weekly basis.
Nevada saw their three game winning streak come to an end their last time out, losing 33-30 at home in overtime against UNLV. The Wolf Pack rallied back from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter but couldn’t find a way to complete the comeback during extra time. QB Carson Strong went 33/54 for 351 passing yards and a touchdown while RB Devonte Lee racked up 44 rushing yards and two touchdowns on eleven carries. Overall, Nevada averaged 21 points and over 350 total yards of offense per game during the regular season.
The Wolf Pack really struggled defensively this year, allowing their opponents to average 32 points and around 400 total yards of offense per game. Nevada had no answer for opposing passing attacks, surrendering 260 yards through the air per outing.
2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Free Betting Pick & Predictions: Ohio -7.5
I’m leaning slightly towards laying the 7.5 points and rolling with Bobcats in this particular matchup, as they were certainly the much more consistent team defensively during the regular season. Neither school was all that impressive against the spread, going well under .500 through their first 12 outings. However, Ohio gave up under five points less per game this year while also playing a much tougher schedule as well. They were also fantastic on the road for the most part, covering the number in four out of their last six games away from Peden Stadium.

It is also important to note that Nevada will be missing three defensive starters for the entire game, while a fourth member of the defense will also be missing for the first half due to a suspension. An above average Ohio offense could have a big opening 30 minutes after averaging almost 35 points per game this year. Nathan Rourke was among the Mid-American Conference leaders in both passing yards (2,676) and touchdown passes (20). I’ll take my chances with the favorite against the spread – give me the Bobcats to cover the number in the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
