The #19 overall Iowa Hawkeyes (6-2) travel to Indiana this weekend to take on the Purdue Boilermakers (4-4) in Big 10 action. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST at Ross-Ade Stadium and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Taking a look at the Week 10 college football odds, Purdue opened as a 2.5-point home favorite earlier this week. That line has moved by only half a point after early betting, as the Boilermakers are currently listed at -3. The total for the game is sitting at 50.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Purdue vs Iowa

Iowa dropped to 6-2 on the season last weekend after a tough 30-24 loss to Penn State. The Hawkeyes had a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter but ultimately came up just short despite outgaining PSU 350-312. QB Nate Stanley struggled immensely against the Nittany Lions, passing for just 205 yards and no touchdowns. He has now thrown one or less touchdowns in four of his eight starts so far this season. Overall, Stanley is completing just 56.1% of his passes for 1,764 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has also been picked off eight times since Week 1. Iowa has looked just below average on the ground, rushing for an average of 161.6 yards per game (79th overall). As a whole, the Hawkeyes are currently averaging 29.8 points per game (63rd overall) on 391.4 yards of total offense (80th).

Things have looked very impressive on the other side of the ball for Iowa, as they are limiting opponents to an average of just 16.1 points per game (11th overall) on 264.9 yards of total offense. The Hawkeyes defense has been extremely dominant on the ground, giving up an average of only 84.4 yards per game (4th overall). They certainly haven’t been too shabby against the pass either, as opponents are averaging 180.5 yards per game through the air (18th overall).

Purdue is coming off of a hard-fought 23-13 road loss against Michigan State last weekend. The Boilermakers may have been suffering from a bit of a hangover after their huge upset win over #2 overall Ohio State back in Week 8. Purdue had scored 40+ points in three consecutive games before a strong Spartans defense really kept them in check last Saturday. QB David Blough has thrown for 2,350 yards through the air while also adding 13 touchdowns. His favorite target is clearly WR Rondale Moore, who has turned 68 receptions into 802 yards and seven touchdowns in only eight games. RB D.J. Knox leads the way on the ground for the Boilermakers, as he has racked up 719  yards and eight touchdowns for a rushing attack that is only 78th overall nationwide. Overall, Purdue is currently averaging 32.9 points per game (49th overall) on 492.4 yards of total offense (12th).

The Boilermakers have been below average defensively so far this season, allowing opponents to score an average of 22.8 points per game on 432.2 yards of total offense (97th overall). They have really struggled against the pass, giving up an average of 299.1 yards per game through the air (127th overall).

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Purdue -3

While I certainly wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Hawkeyes find a way to win this game on the road, I think Purdue offers the best value in this particular spot. Despite having a bit of a letdown against a tough Michigan State team on the road last weekend, the Boilermakers showed how well they play at home back in Week 8 when they knocked off Ohio State. Iowa really struggled offensively against Penn State in Week 9, especially through the air where Stanley threw two interceptions. While he should be able to rebound against a horrific Purdue pass defense, I’m still not sure if he is capable of putting enough points on the board for the Hawkeyes to come out on top in this one.

The Boilermakers are a very impressive 6-2 ATS over their last eight home games. They are also 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games and 5-1 ATS over their last six games overall. Iowas is just 1-6 ATS over their last seven games on grass, however, they have been quite good at Ross-Ade Stadium as of late, going 5-1 ATS in their last six visits.

This should be a very entertaining game that comes right down to the wire. Both of these teams still have a lot to play for, but Purdue really needs a win this weekend if they want to stay in the hunt for a Bowl appearance. The Boilermakers have been the stronger team as of late, winning four out of their last five games including that huge statement against the Buckeyes at home. I’m going to lay the field goal and take the favorite to keep things rolling at home on Saturday – give me Purdue.
