Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Iowa State vs Kansas

Kansas lost their second straight game last weekend, falling 31-13 on the road against #22 overall Oklahoma State to drop to 3-7 on the season overall. The Jayhawks gave up 14 unanswered points in the first quarter and never recovered, getting completely shutout on the scoreboard until the last 15 minutes of the game. QB Carter Stanley went 22/37 for 226 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while also getting picked off once. Pooka Williams Jr. couldn’t find a way to get anything going on the ground, rushing for only 26 yards on a team-high 12 carries. Stephon Robinson Jr. led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown. As a whole, Kansas gained under 300 total yards of offense and found the end zone twice in the defeat.

The Jayhawks didn’t have a great outing on the other side of the ball against Oklahoma State either, surrendering almost 500 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Kansas had no answer on the ground for Heisman hopeful Chuba Hubbard, as he racked up 122 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

Iowa State snapped a two game losing slide last weekend, beating Texas 23-21 at home to improve to 6-4 on the season overall. The Cyclones scored ten unanswered points in the third quarter to increase their lead and managed to hold on down the stretch despite getting outscored 14-3 over the final 15 minutes of the game. QB Brock Purdy went 30/48 for 354 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air but also got picked off once as well. RB Breece Hall was a workhorse on the ground, rushing for 101 yards on a game-high 24 carries. Deshaunte Jones also chipped in, torching the secondary for 144 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven catches. Overall, Iowa State generated well over 450 total yards and found the end zone twice on offense in the win.

The Cyclones were fairly solid defensively against Texas, holding the Longhorns to just over 300 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Iowa State was especially strong defending against the run, giving up only 54 rushing yards.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Kansas +25.5

Although most of the public seems to be leaning towards laying the points and rolling with the home favorite, I think that the Jayhawks currently offer the best value against the spread in this BIG 12 matchup. Kansas has certainly played better than their 3-7 indicates, as they only came up two points short against Texas while also staying within a field goal of Texas Tech. That certainly bodes well for their chances against the spread here in Week 13, especially when considering they didn’t lose by 25+ points to either #8 overall Oklahoma or #22 overall Oklahoma State. Iowa State hasn’t exactly been blowing teams out of the water over the past month or so either, as both of their last two victories were by ten points or less.

The Cyclones haven’t been overpowering at home this year, going a very pedestrian 3-3 against the spread. They have also failed to cover the number in two out of their last three conference games that took place at Jack Trice Stadium as well. On the other side, Kansas has only failed to stay within 25 points of their opponent twice in their last ten games overall. I’m going to take the boatload of points and take a shot with the massive road underdog on Saturday afternoon – give me the Jayhawks to cover!
