One of the more underrated games on the Week 4 NFL schedule is the Jacksonville Jaguars visiting the New York Jets. Game time is 1:00 EST on Sunday, October 1 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The game can be seen in local markets on CBS.

Oddsmakers have the Jaguars as 3.5-point favorites on the road. The over/under for the game is only 39.5 points. Click here for a full list of the Week 4 betting odds and links to more game previews.

Jaguars vs Jets Vegas Betting Line & Game Preview

The Jaguars and Jets were two of the more surprising teams during Week 3. The Jaguars blew out the Ravens in London 44-7. Blake Bortles had a career day with four touchdown passes against a Baltimore defense that looked like one of the best in football during the first two weeks of the season. The Jacksonville defense also played its part, limiting the Ravens to just 186 total yards while forcing three turnovers.

Meanwhile, the Jets surprised people just by winning a game, knocking off the Dolphins 20-6. After the first two weeks of the season, some began to wonder if the Jets would go winless this season. But behind a strong defensive effort, the Jets earned their first win of the season.

Both teams now have a chance to build upon last week’s win. Expectations remain low for New York, but two wins in a row could start to change the perception of the team. As for Jacksonville, competing atop the AFC South isn’t out of the question. But the Jaguars can’t afford to lose to a team like the Jets if they have playoff aspirations.

Free NFL Betting Prediction: Jaguars -3.5

Last week’s win was nice, but I’ll need to see more until I’m sold on the Jets. Plus, the Jaguars couldn’t have been more impressive on both sides of the ball last week. I’ll lean toward Jacksonville to keep it going and cover the spread as road favorites against New York.

The Jacksonville defense has been underrated this year and has a chance to have another great game against New York. To be fair, the Jaguars gave up 37 points to the Titans in Week 2. But three of the four touchdown drives they allowed in that game were less than 50 yards, as the Jaguars were hurt by turnovers and poor field position. In their other two games this year, the Jaguars have allowed 14 total points and forced seven turnovers.

New York’s offense isn’t exactly a juggernaut, and so a stout defense could be a problem for the Jets. Josh McCown has been a competent game manager this season, but that’s about it. He also threw two interceptions in Week 1 against a Buffalo defense that was able to put pressure on him. It could be a similar story this week against a Jacksonville defense that leads the NFL with 13 sacks.

The Jacksonville defense was all over Joe Flacco last week, forcing him into mistakes. I can see the Jaguars doing the same thing to McCown, who typically struggles if he doesn’t have a clean pocket. To make matters worse for the Jets, Matt Forte is questionable to play Saturday, so New York could also struggle to generate a running game if Forte can’t play.

Whether the Jaguars can find consistency from Bortles and the offense is uncertain. But there should be little doubt that Jacksonville’s defense is well positioned for success against the Jets. If the Jaguars can just avoid hurting themselves with mistakes, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t come out on top and beat the Jets comfortably.
