This Sunday the Pittsburgh Steelers will host the New York Jets in Week 5 action. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 EST at Heinz Field and will be televised locally on CBS. Oddsmakers have the Steelers listed as a 7.5-point home favorite with the total at 48 points.
Jets vs Steelers Vegas Betting Preview
New York (1-3) comes into this game off a 17-27 home loss to the Seahawks. The Jets were once again done in by turnovers. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw 3 more interceptions, giving him 9 in the last 2 games.
Pittsburgh (3-1) bounced back from that ugly road loss to the Eagles in style. The Steelers demolished the Chiefs 43-14 on Sunday Night Football. It was over shortly after it started, as Pittsburgh took a 29-0 lead into the half.
This will be the first meeting in the series since New York hosted the Steelers in 2014. The Jets won that game 20-13 as a 4.5-point home dog. Snapping a 3-game losing streak in the series.
Free Point Spread Pick & Predictions: Jets +7.5
I think the Steelers blowout win on Sunday Night Football has them a little overrated. At the same time, the perception on the Jets couldn’t be much worse after their 1-3 start. I think we are getting an inflated line here, thus creating some great value with New York.

The thing to keep in mind with the Jets slow start is they have played a brutal schedule. Three were against playoff teams from last year and the other a division road game against the Bills.
I’m not saying they can win this game, but 7.5-points is a lot in the NFL in a matchup of two quality teams. Turnovers have really hurt the Jets in their last two losses. In those two games they had a -10 turnover ratio. That’s simply not something that’s going to continue. A lot of the interceptions by Fitzpatrick weren’t his fault.
Pittsburgh is a team that I think Fitzpatrick and the Jets offense can exploit. The Steelers rank 30th in the NFL against the pass, giving up 316.5 ypg.
The other big key here is motivation. While we are just in Week 5, this has the feeling of a must-win game for New York. With another road game on deck against Arizona, a loss here has them staring a 1-5 start in the face.
I’m not saying the Steelers won’t be motivated, but I don’t think they are going to have that same edge as last week. They had something to prove after that bad showing against the Eagles. On top of that, it was a nationally televised primetime game at home.
Pittsburgh has had their struggles against teams like the Jets. Under Tomlin, they are just 8-17 ATS in their last 25 versus teams who are being outscored by 6 ppg or more. They are also just 3-11 ATS under Tomlin against teams with a turnover margin of -1 or more per game.
