Taking a look at the Week 9 college football odds, Texas Tech opened as a 3-point road favorite earlier this week. The spread has increased by over a full point after early betting, as the Red Raiders are currently listed at -4.5. The total for the game is sitting at 64 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Kansas vs Texas Tech
Texas Tech has now lost four out of their last five games after falling 34-24 at home against #23 overall Iowa State last weekend to drop below the .500 mark on the season. The Red Raiders trailed 20-7 at the half and couldn’t find a way to pull off a comeback down the stretch despite outscoring the Cyclones over the final two quarters of the game. QB Jett Duffey went 40/52 for 239 yards and a touchdown while RB SaRodorick Thompson racked up 57 yards and two touchdowns on just ten carries. T.J. Vasher caught the only passing touchdown of the game for the offense, finding the end zone on one of his five catches for 36 yards. Overall, Texas Tech gained over 400 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns despite coming up short on the scoreboard.
The Red Raiders had a below average outing on the other side of the ball against Iowa State, surrendering over 550 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. Texas Tech really struggled to slow down Cyclones QB Brock Purdy through the air, as he threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns.
Kansas lost their fourth consecutive game last weekend despite pushing #15 overall Texas to the brink in what turned out to be a thrilling offensive shootout. The Jayhawks scored 24 points in the fourth quarter alone but it still wasn’t enough to upset the Longhorns, and Ehlinger and Co. scored 26 points of their own over the final 15 minutes to escape with the victory. QB Carter Stanley was fantastic, throwing for 310 yards and four touchdowns through the air while also adding 65 rushing yards on nine carries. Pooka Williams Jr. was an absolute beast on the ground, rumbling for 190 yards and two touchdowns on a team-high 25 carries. As a whole, Kansas generated almost 600 total yards of offense and scored six touchdowns despite the heartbreaking finish.
The Jayhawks were a disaster defensively against Texas, getting torched for well over 600 total yards of offense and six touchdowns. Kansas had no answer for Longhorns WR Devin Duvernay, as he torched the secondary for 110 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Texas Tech -4.5
I think the Red Raiders currently offer pretty good value in this BIG 12 showdown, as Kansas has really been struggling defensively as of late. In fact, the Jayhawks have now given up at least 45 points in three consecutive games, which certainly doesn’t bode well for them heading into a matchup with an above average Texas Tech offense. The Red Raiders have scored 99 points over their last three games and should be able to continue that success on Saturday evening.

It is also important to note that Texas Tech has owned Kansas against the spread as of late, going a very impressive 8-2 ATS over their last ten meetings overall. The Red Raiders are also a perfect 10-0 straight up in their last ten games against the Jayhawks. On the other side, Kansas is a brutal 0-8 outright over their last eight home games against Texas Tech. They are also only 1-3 against the spread through their first four home games this season. Ultimately, I’ll happily lay the 4.5 points and take the slight road favorite in this BIG 12 battle – give me the Red Raiders to cover the number!
