The Eastern Michigan Eagle (6-5) travel to Kent this weekend for a Mid-American Conference with the Kent State Golden Flashes (2-9). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST at Dix Stadium and the game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Taking a look at the Week 13 college football odds, Eastern Michigan opened as a 13.5-point road favorite earlier this week. That line has shifted by half a point after early betting, as the Eagles are currently listed at -13. The total for the game is sitting at 53 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Kent State vs Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan became bowl-eligible last week after a dominant 27-7 performance against Akron. The Eagles were fantastic defensively all game long, limiting the Zips to just 101 total yards and returning an interception for a touchdown. QB Tyler Wiegers didn’t have his best game, throwing for just 129 yards in the win. He had a ton of help from the rushing attack though, as the duo of Ian Eriksen and Breck Turner combined for 140 yards and two touchdowns. WR Blake Banham has been the leading receiver for Eastern Michigan this year, racking up 709 yards and five touchdowns. As a whole, the offense is currently averaging 27.5 points per game (80th overall). They have certainly struggled a bit as of late, scoring 27 or fewer points in three consecutive games.
The Eagles have played quite well on the other side of the ball this season, limiting opponents to an average of just 22.2 points per game (35th overall). They have really done a nice job against the pass through their first 11 games, giving up an average of only 155.5 yards per game through the air – 5th best in the entire country.
Kent State dropped to 2-9 overall last Thursday, losing 56-34 at home to Toledo. The Golden Flashes have only won one game against a conference opponent all season long, a 35-28 road win that came at the end of October against Bowling Green. QB Woody Barrett has had an up and down season, throwing for 2,130 yards and 11 touchdowns while also getting picked off nine times. Barrett has also chipped in on the ground, rushing for 478 yards. Kent State has been using the duo of Jo-El Shaw and Justin Rankin out of the backfield all season long, although Shaw has taken over as the primary back as of late since after several strong outings. Overall, the offense is only averaging 24.3 points per game (102nd overall). South Alabama dropped to 2-9 on the season last weekend after a hard-fought 48-38 loss to Louisiana on the road.
The Golden Flashes have been one of the worst teams in the entire country defensively, giving up an average of 37.5 points per game to opponents (117th overall). They have had a ton of trouble stopping both the run and the pass through their first 11 games, ranking just 115th and 103rd overall respectively.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Eastern Michigan -13
This particular matchup seems pretty straight-forward to me, as Kent State has been absolute brutal on both sides of the ball this year. Eastern Michigan hasn’t been overly impressive either, although they have played quite well on defense. A lot is being made of the fact that the Eagles have scored less than 27 points three weeks in a row, but I’m not overly concerned about that here in Week 13. The Golden Flashes have been giving up almost 40 points per game all season long and have allowed 114 points combined over the last two weeks. If there ever was a rebound spot for the struggling Eastern Michigan offense, this is certainly it.

Kent State is just 1-6 ATS over their last seven games in the month of November. The Eagles are a perfect 6-0 ATS in their last six Friday games. They are also a rock-solid 4-1 ATS over their last five road games and 17-8 ATS in their last 25 games overall.
It is also important to note that the favorite is 5-1 ATS over the last six meetings between these two teams. I think that trend will continue here in Week 13, so I’m totally fine with having to lay almost two touchdowns in this spot. I’m rolling with the road favorite to cover the spread on Friday afternoon – give me Eastern Michigan.
