Las Vegas Bowl Vegas Odds Preview: Boise State vs Washington

Washington won two out of their final three games of the regular season to finish 7-5 overall. The Huskies really played well on offense in their Apple Cup victory, as they crushed Washington State 31-13 at home. QB Jacob Eason played well, going 15/22 for 244 passing yards and a touchdown through the air. RB Salvon Ahmed racked up 85 rushing yards on a team-high 16 carries but it was Richard Newton who made the biggest impact on the box score, hitting pay dirt twice despite rushing for only 17 yards on nine carries. As a whole, Washington generated an average of 31.5 points and almost 400 yards of total offense per game this year.

The Huskies were pretty strong on the other side of the ball through their first thirteen games, surrendering just over 20 points per game. Washington didn’t really give up a ton of total offense either, holding their opponents to around 355 total yards per outing.

Boise State reeled off six straight victories to close their regular season, including a very impressive 31-10 victory over Hawaii in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game. The Broncos jumped out to an early 17-3 lead and never looked back, giving up just a single touchdown the entire second half. QB Jaylon Henderson went 20/29 for 212 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while also finding the end zone once on the ground as well. Khalil Shakir and John Hightower also chipped in, combining for 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns on ten catches. Overall, Boise State averaged almost 37 points and 450 total yards of offense per game over their first 13 outings.

The Broncos were also fairly solid on the other side of the ball during the regular season, giving up just over 20 points per game while holding opposing offenses to an average of under 350 total yards. Boise State was especially strong defending against the run, allowing only 112 rushing yards per game.

2019 Las Vegas Bowl Free Betting Pick & Predictions: OVER 50

This matchup could easily go either way on Saturday afternoon, as Boise State appears to have a slight edge on offense while the Huskies probably are the stronger team on the other side of the ball. I really don’t have a strong lean either way against the spread, which means my favorite play in this particular spot is probably the OVER on 50 total points scored. Of course, both defenses only gave up around 20 points per game during the regular season, so that’s certainly something to keep in mind. However, Washington and Boise State combined to average well over 30 points per game, which leaves me feeling pretty optimistic about their chances of combining for at least 50 points in the 2019 Las Vegas Bowl.

It is important to point out that Washington has owned the Broncos against the spread over the past decade or so, going a perfect 4-0 ATS over their last four meetings. While that leaves me leaning slightly towards the Huskies against the spread, I’m still not going to roll the dice and roll with the favorite against a troublesome 3.5 point spread. The total has gone OVER 50 total points in three out of Boise State’s last four outings overall. Washington also scored at least 45 total points on four separate occasions during the regular season, so I think that they should be able to do enough on offense to push the total above 50 points in this matchup. Give me the OVER on 50 total points scored in what should be a very entertaining Las Vegas Bowl showdown.
