The Buffalo Bulls (1-1) travel to Lynchburg in Week 3 to battle the Liberty Flames (0-2). Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM EST on Saturday, September 14th at Williams Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPN+.

Taking a look at the Week 3 college football odds, Michigan State opened as an 11-point home favorite earlier this week. That line has increased by over two full points after early betting, as the Spartans are currently listed at -13.5. The total for the game is sitting at 42.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Liberty vs Buffalo

Buffalo hung tough for a couple of quarters against Penn State in Week 2 before collapsing in the second half and dropping back to .500 on the season. The Bulls actually had a 10-7 lead at halftime before the Nittany Lions scored four touchdowns in the third quarter en route to a 45-13 victory. QB Matt Myers didn’t have his best outing, going just 16/31 for 245 yards and a touchdown. The only Buffalo receiver who had a big game was Antonio Nunn, as he hauled in five passes for 113 yards. RB Jaret Patterson couldn’t get anything going on the ground against a tough Penn State defense, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. As a whole, the offense gained over 400 total yards but couldn’t find the end zone nearly enough, scoring only one touchdown all game.

The Bulls defense obviously had a pretty rough outing against Penn State, giving up five touchdowns on over 350 yards of total offense. Buffalo was especially poor against the pass, allowing QB Sean Clifford to go 16/22 for 279 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Liberty dropped to 0-2 in Week 2 after a tough 35-14 road loss against Louisiana-Lafayette. The Flames trailed 21-14 at the half and never recovered, allowing 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. QB Stephen Calvert struggled at times, going 21/37 for 212 yards and a touchdown. RB Frankie Hickson had a monster day on the ground, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. WR DJ Stubbs was the only other player to score a touchdown, hauling in five passes for 52 receiving yards.

The Flames defense couldn’t figure out a way to slow down Louisiana-Lafayette, allowing over 600 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. Liberty was absolutely torched on the ground, giving up well over 300 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Buffalo -4

I think the Bulls offer some decent value in this particular matchup, as I think betting markets have overreacted to their blowout loss to Penn State in Week 2. It is important to remember that Buffalo dominated Robert Morris in Week 1, scoring five touchdowns en route to a 38-10 victory. While Jaret Patterson had a bad game against a very strong Penn State defense last weekend, he should be able to rebound nicely against a team that just gave up almost 400 rushing yards in a single game. The Bulls defense should also look much better here in Week 3, as Liberty has only scored 14 points combined over their first two games of the season.

The Flames can’t seem to find any consistency on offense, although Frankie Hickson was electric on the ground against the Rajun’ Cajuns in Week 2. Still, Buffalo was only really exposed by Penn State through the air, which doesn’t look like it will help a very weak Liberty passing attack all that much. To me, the Bulls are clearly the better team on both sides of the ball, so I have no problem laying anything less than 5 points in this spot. Not only are the Flames 0-2 against the spread in 2019, they also have been outscored 59-14 during that same time span. I’ll happily lay the points and take the road underdogs to cover this small spread with relative ease – give me Buffalo!
