Lions vs Vikings Game Odds & Betting Preview
The Vikings won their second straight game last weekend, beating Philadelphia 38-20 at home to improve to 4-2 on the season overall. Minnesota jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, scoring four more touchdowns over the final 45 minutes of the game. QB Kirk Cousins was fantastic, throwing for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Dalvin Cook had his first quiet game of the season on the ground against a tough Eagles run defense, gaining just 41 rushing yards on 16 carries. The big story on offense was the resurgence of WR Stefon Diggs, as the speedy wideout finally exploded for 167 yards and three touchdowns after weeks of controversy and trade talk. Fellow WR Adam Thielen also turned in a solid performance, making six catches for 57 yards and a score. As a whole, the Vikings generated well over 450 total yards of offense and scored five touchdowns in the double-digit victory.
Minnesota was fairly average defensively against Philadelphia, giving up over 400 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. The Vikings really had a hard time limiting the damage done by RB Miles Sanders on his three catches out of the backfield, as he gained 86 receiving yards and found the end zone once as well.
The Lions have now lost two consecutive games after an impressive 2-0-1 start to the year, as they fell 23-22 against Green Bay on Monday Night Football in Week 6. Detroit scored ten unanswered points in the first quarter but couldn’t hold on down the stretch, surrendering 13 points in the second half en route to a heartbreaking road loss. QB Matthew Stafford went 18/32 for 265 passing yards while Kerryon Johnson rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Kenny Golladay had a monster showing to lead the way for the receiving game, hauling in five catches for 121 yards. As a whole, the Lions generated well over 300 total yards of offense despite coming up just short on the scoreboard.
Detroit had an average outing on the other side of the ball in Week 6, holding the Packers to two touchdowns despite giving up well over 400 total yards of offense. However, the Lions did have a tough time trying to slow down Green Bay RB Jamaal Williams on the ground, as he gained 104 rushing yards on a team-high 14 carries.
Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: Vikings -1
This is shaping up to be one of the best games on the entire schedule here in Week 8, as NFC North battles have a tendency to be highly entertaining – especially when both participating teams aren’t below the .500 mark. While Detroit should bounce back a bit after two heartbreaking losses in a row, I still think that the Vikings offer the best value in this particular spot. Minnesota really appears to be firing on all cylinders right now, as they have now scored at least 28 points in three out of their last four games while giving up just 15 points per game over that same time span.

The Vikings have also owned Detroit against the spread as of late, going a perfect 3-0 ATS over their last three meetings. Minnesota is also a rock-solid 4-1 ATS in their last five visits to Ford Field and 6-3 ATS over their last nine games overall. On the other side, the Lions are only 1-5 straight up over their last six divisional games. I’m going to lay the single point and roll with the road favorite to cover the spread in this NFC North clash – give me Minnesota!
