The Florida International Panthers (6-5) travel to Huntington, West Virginia this weekend for a Conference USA clash with the Marshall Thundering Herd (7-4). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on November 30th at Joan C. Edwards Stadium and the game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.

Taking a look at theĀ Week 14 college football odds, Marshall opened as a 7.5-point home favorite earlier this week. The spread hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Thundering Herd are currently available at -7.5. The total for the game is sitting at 48.5 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Marshall vs FIU

Florida International has now won two out of their last three games after upsetting Miami 30-24 at home last weekend to improve to 6-5 on the season overall. The Panthers scored ten unanswered points in the first quarter and managed to hold on down the stretch despite getting outscored 21-14 over the final 15 minutes of the game. QB James Morgan went 16/30 for 160 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while RB Anthony Jones racked up 112 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 16 carries on the ground. Tony Gaiter IV also chipped in, making six receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Florida International gained close to 300 total yards of offense and found the end zone three times in the victory.

The Panthers had a mediocre outing on the other side of the ball against Miami, surrendering over 400 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. However, FIU certainly didn’t make life easy for Hurricanes QB Jarren Williams, forcing three interceptions.

Marshall saw their five game winning streak come to an end last weekend, falling 24-13 on the road against Charlotte. The Thundering Herd took the lead with an early touchdown but it was all downhill from there, as they got outscored 24-6 over the final three quarters. QB Isaiah Green really struggled, throwing two interceptions and going just 6/17 for 86 passing yards. RB Brenden Knox led the way on the ground, rushing for 92 yards on a team-high 22 carries. Knox also generated the most yardage for the receiving corps, making just one catch for 40 yards. As a whole, Marshall generated over 200 total yards but didn’t score a single touchdown on offense in the loss.

The Thundering Herd weren’t very good defensively against Charlotte, giving up just over 400 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Marshall had no answer for 49ers WR Victor Tucker, as he torched the secondary for 121 yards and a touchdown on just five receptions.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Marshall -7.5

There really isn’t a lot to like about either side against the spread in this Conference USA showdown, as the number looks pretty efficient to me. While Marshall should find a way to win this game outright, Florida International really showed a lot of tenacity last weekend in their upset victory over the Hurricanes. If forced to pick a side, I’d probably take a shot with the home favorite due to how poorly the Panthers have fared against the spread on the road this season. FIU simply hasn’t found a way to get the job done away from home, failing to cover the number in five out of their last six outings away from Riccardo Silva Stadium.

The Thundering Herd have also had the upper hand in this Conference USA rivalry in recent years, winning five out of their last seven meetings with FIU. They have also covered the number when facing the Panthers at home more often than not, as they are 2-1 against the spread over three battles at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Again, I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to get action on this game, especially with the spread currently sitting above a full touchdown. However, with the total also looking bang on, I’d rather take my chances with the home favorite against an Florida International squad that struggles badly on the road if picking just one play from this matchup.
