Miami vs Clemson Game Preview & Betting Odds
The Hurricanes lost an absolute shocker against Pitt last wekeend in what turned out to be their only defeat of the regular season. Miami had won ten consecutive games and may have looked past the 5-6 Panthers in what most expected to be a one-sided affair going into Week 13. However, the Hurricanes fell behind early and couldn’t find a way to come back to take the lead in the second half, eventually falling 24-14. QB Malik Rosier was benched in the fourth quarter after a relatively sub-par performance. However, that loss could all be just a blip on the radar if Miami finds a way to rebound this weekend. Rosier will have every opportunity to make a huge statement on a big stage if he can regain form quickly and continue to build on his 2,994 passing yard, 27 touchdown performance so far this year.
Clemson has now rolled to five straight victories after a brutal loss to Syracuse at the beginning of October. The Tigers have also been extremely impressive against quality opponents, racking up 8 wins over bowl eligible teams including Top 25 ranked schools such as Auburn, Louisville, Virginia Tech, NC State, and South Carolina. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this Clemson team has been their offensive depth, as they have accomplished a ton without having a 1,000 yard rusher OR receiver on their roster. They have also put up 20+ points in 11/12 games so far this year. When combined with their 4th overall scoring defense that is giving up just 13.6 points per game, it is easy to see why this Tigers team is so heavily favoured heading into the ACC Championship.
Free College Football Against the Spread Pick: Miami +9.5
I’m fully expecting this to be a close, hard-fought game between two teams that are ranked inside of the top 15 in terms of scoring defense. I still think that Clemson is more likely to win this game than the Huricanes, but having to give up 9.5 points in what should be a one-possession game by the end of the 4th quarter isn’t something I can get on board with.

I think experience matters a lot in high pressure situations like this, which is something that should give a definite edge to the Tigers. They showed last year that they are more than capable of handling everything that comes with the spotlight en route to winning the National Championship. Miami will certainly be extremely motivated to come out strong after such a disappointing loss last weekend, but I do worry about how many close victories they have had this year. It certainly demonstrates that they are capable of winning tight games, but it also goes to show just how little margin for error they had against teams far less talented than Clemson.
The Tigers are 6-2-1 ATS over their last eight games against teams with a winning record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. In spite of all that, I think that they will most likely win this one by 3-7 points while failing to cover the spread against a tough Hurricanes defense. I’m expecting a similar result to what happened at the beginning of the year when Clemson played #4 Auburn and ended up winning 14-6. I’ll take the Tigers to win this game outright while Miami keeps things close.
