Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Michigan State vs Maryland
Maryland lost their six game in a row last weekend, getting crushed 54-7 at home against Nebraska to drop to 3-8 on the season overall. The Terrapins gave up 34 unanswered points in the first half alone and never recovered, scoring just a single touchdown the entire game. QB Josh Jackson didn’t play well, going just 4/12 for 33 passing yards. RB Javon Leake was pretty much the only bright spot on offense, rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries. Dontay Demus and Brian Cobbs led the way for the receiving corps, combining for just 24 yards on two catches. Overall, Maryland generated just over 200 total yards of offense in the blowout loss.
The Terrapins obviously had a brutal outing on the other side of the ball against Nebraska, getting lit up for well over 500 total yards of offense and six touchdowns. Maryland had no answer for Cornhuskers WR J.D Spielman, as he torched the secondary for 104 yards and two touchdowns on just seven receptions.
Michigan State snapped a five game losing slide last weekend after shutting out Rutgers 27-0 on the road to improve to 5-6 overall. The Spartans scored ten unanswered points in the first quarter and cruised to victory from there, tacking on two more touchdowns and a field goal over the final 45 minutes of the game. QB Brian Lewerke went 21/30 for 239 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while RG Elijah Collins racked up 109 rushing yards on a game-high 31 carries. Cody White ran circles around the Scarlet Knight secondary, exploding for 136 yards and three touchdowns on 11 receptions. As a whole, Michigan State gained over 400 total yards of offense and found the end zone three times in the win.
The Spartans were fantastic defensively against Rutgers, surrendering well under 150 total yards of offense and no points. Michigan State was especially impressive defending against the pass, allowing only 57 yards through the air while also recording an interception.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Michigan State -21.5
It’s hard not to be pretty optimistic about the Spartans chances of covering the spread here in Week 14, as Maryland has really struggled on both sides of the ball this season. Not only have the Terrapins been held to 17 points or less in seven out of their last nine outings, they have also surrendered 40+ points five times over that same time span. While Michigan State hasn’t really been all that explosive on offense this year, they have a fantastic matchup for a rebound performance at home on Saturday afternoon.

Maryland hasn’t played well on the road this year either, failing to cover the number in three out of their last four games away from Capital One Field. The Terrapins are also just 1-5 against the spread over their last six games overall and only 1-7 ATS in their last eight outings on the road as well. Their offense hasn’t found a way to get the job done at Spartan Stadium over the past couple of years either, scoring just 14 total points in their last last two visits. I’ll eat the chalk and roll with the big home favorite in this BIG 10 East clash, as I think that the Spartans should roll in this particular spot – give me Michigan State to cover!
