The Tulane Green Wave (5-2) head to Annapolis this weekend for an American West battle against the Navy Midshipmen (5-1). Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST on October 26th at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and the game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
Taking a look at the Week 9 college football odds, Navy opened as a 3.5-point home favorite earlier this week. The spread hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Midshipmen are currently listed at -3.5. The total for the game is sitting at 56 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Navy vs Tulane
Tulane saw their four game winning streak come to an end last weekend after falling 47-17 on the road against Memphis. The Green Wave gave up 34 points in the first half and never recovered, eventually lose by 30 points to drop back to 5-2 on the season overall. QB Justin McMillan went 15/28 for 187 yards and a touchdown but also got picked off three times as well. However, McMillan did lead the way on the ground with 89 rushing yards and a score on a team-high 15 carries. Darnell Mooney was on the receiving end of the only touchdown pass of the day for the offense, as he found the end zone on one of his five catches for 65 yards. Overall, Tulane generated over 300 total yards and scored two touchdowns despite coming up well short on the scoreboard.
The Green Wave had a brutal outing on the other side of the ball against Memphis, surrendering almost 500 total yards of offense and six touchdowns. Tulane was especially bad defending against the pass, as Tigers QB Brady White torched the secondary for 358 yards and five touchdowns through the air.
Navy has now won five out of their last six games after crushing Tulsa 45-17 on the road to move to 5-1 on the season overall. The Midshipmen jumped out to a 28-3 lead in the first half and never looked back, scoring 17 more points over the final two quarters to put the game out of reach. QB Malcolm Perry made just four passing attempts but had a fantastic performance on the ground, rushing for 218 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Jamale Carothers, Nelson Smith, and CJ Williams also found the end zone on the ground while combing for more than 100 rushing yards. As a whole, Navy racked up over 400 total yards of offense and scored six touchdowns in the blowout victory.
The Mids were pretty solid defensively against Tulsa, giving up just two touchdowns despite allowing well over 300 total yards of offense. Navy was especially solid defending against the run, holding the Golden Hurricane to only 69 rushing yards.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 56
While I’m leaning slightly towards Tulane against the spread in this American West showdown, the Green Wave are just 1-2 ATS on the road so far this season. They certainly appear to be a much different team at home, as they are a perfect 4-0 against the spread through four games. Navy has also been fantastic at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium this year, going 4-0 against the spread. With all of that in mind, I actually think the best overall play in this spot is likely the OVER on 56 points scored. The Mids have scored a very impressive 114 points in their last three outings combined, while Tulane has scored 40+ in two out of their last three games.

It is also worth noting that the total has gone OVER in four out of Tulane’s last five games overall. The OVER has also come through in two out of the last three games the Green Wave have played away from Yulman Stadium. On the other side, the OVER has hit in four of Navy’s last six games against American West opponents. This matchup should be a back and forth affair with plenty of scoring, so I’ll avoid both schools against the spread in favor of the OVER on 56 total points scored.
