The Nevada Wolfpack (3-1) host the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (3-1) this weekend for a Mountain West battle in Reno. Kickoff is set for 10:30 PM EST on Saturday, September 28th at Mackay Stadium and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

Taking a look at the Week 5 college football odds, Nevada opened as a 2.5-point home favorite earlier this week. That line hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Wolfpack are currently listed at -2.5. The total for the game is sitting at 65 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Nevada vs Hawaii

Hawaii improved to 3-1 on the season last weekend. beating Central Arkansas 35-16 at home after a tough road loss to Washington in Week 3. The Rainbow Warriors jumped out to a 28-9 lead in the first half and never looked back, giving up only a touchdown over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Cole McDonald was impressive, going 25/32 for 300 yards and four touchdowns. McDonald also averaged 7.8 yards per carry on four rushing attempts. RB Miles Reed led the way on the ground, rushing for 60 yards on ten carries. Jared Smart had a massive game through the air, hauling in eight passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Overall. Hawaii generated more than 400 yards of total offense and scored four touchdowns.

The Rainbow Warriors were also pretty solid on the other side of the ball in Week 4, holding the Bears to just two touchdowns on less than 350 yards of total offense. Hawaii really did a great job slowing down Central Arkansas QB Breylin Smith, picking off one of his game-high 51 throwing attempts and limiting him to just 185 passing yards and no touchdowns.

Nevada won their second consecutive game last Saturday, outscoring UTEP 37-21 to improve to 3-1 on the season overall. The Wolfpack fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter but responded quickly, outscoring the Miners 37-14 the rest of the way. QB Cristian Solano was 13/19 for 182 yards and two touchdowns through the air while also adding 100 rushing yards on only ten carries. WR Elijah Cooks also had a standout performance, catching four passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way for the receiving corps. As a whole, Nevada gained almost 400 total yards and scored five touchdowns in the victory.

The Wolfpack had an up and down outing on the other side of the ball, giving up two touchdowns in the first half before really shutting down the UTEP offense over the final 30 minutes of the game. Nevada was fantastic against the pass in particular, only giving up 116 passing yards and forcing three interceptions.

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Nevada -2.5

I think Nevada offers a ton of value in this particular spot, especially since they are still only 2.5 point favorites at home here in Week 5. The Wolfpack have been pretty impressive for the most part this season, upsetting Purdue in Week 1 before rebounding in Week 3 and 4 after a tough loss to Oregon in early September. Hawaii has also played well, although they still have yet to win a road game after a tough loss against Washington in Week 3. There is no doubt that the Rainbow Warriors are a drastically different team away from Aloha Stadium, and their recent record at Mackay Stadium fully supports that trend.

Hawaii is a dreadful 0-5 straight up over their last five trips to face the Wolfpack in Reno. They are also 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games against Nevada overall. The Rainbow Warriors have also really struggled against opponents from the Mountain West Conference, going 3-16-1 over their last 20 conference matchups. On the other side, the Wolfpack are a very strong 4-1 against the spread over their last five home games. All things considered, I think that Nevada should find a way to win this game by at least a field goal on Saturday night. As long as this spread stays at -3 or lower, I’m most comfortable backing the home favorite – give me the Wolfpack to cover!
