Nevada vs San Diego State Game Preview & Betting Odds

The Wolf Pack ended a three game losing streak with a convincing 59-14 victory over the San Jose State Spartans last weekend. Nevada dominated on both sides of the ball, as QB Ty Gangi threw for three touchdowns while the Wolf Pack defense forced five turnovers including two pick sixes. Although just 2-8 on the season, the Wolf Pack have been much more competitive recently and seem to be finding their stride offensively. Nevada has now scored 44+ points in three out of their past four games. However, they are still struggling immensely on defense, as they are allowing opponents to score an average of 34.9 points per game (110th overall).

San Diego State is coming off a bye week after impressive back to back wins over Hawaii and San Jose State. The Aztecs put up 50+ against the Spartans after beating Hawaii by three touchdowns. SDSU certainly looks to be responding well after losing two consecutive games after a very impressive 6-0 start. RB Rashaad Penny will look to continue his extremely impressive season after rushing for 234 yards and three touchdowns against San Jose State. Penny currently has the second most rushing yards in the entire country this season (1,602). He should be able to have another big game against a Nevada defense that is currently allowing 204.6 yards on the ground per game (109th overall).

Free College Football ATS Pick: San Diego State -14.5

This is actually a pretty interesting spot, as Nevada has certainly looked much better over the past several weeks. Outside of a lopsided loss against Boise State, the Wolfpack lost by a combined five points against Air Force and Colorado State before absolutely destroying San Jose State last weekend. However, San Diego State is simply too talented for Nevada to stay within striking distance for all four quarters, especially when playing at home. I’m taking the Aztecs to cover in this one.

The Wolf Pack are a solid 4-1 ATS over their last five games but just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six meetings with the Aztecs. SDSU is 6-3 ATS over their past nine contests and 12-3 SU over their past fifteen home games. They should also be well rested after not playing since November 4th. San Diego State should also have a lot of confidence after rebounding from two consecutive losses with convincing victories over San Jose State and Hawaii. Although those two teams aren’t exactly powerhouses, Nevada (2-8) certainly shouldn’t pose much of a threat to the Aztecs either.

Nevada certainly has been much-improved lately, but I think their recent streak of staying relatively competitive comes to an end in this one. The Aztecs will want to avoid a sluggish start after some time off and should be fired up to play in front of a big crowd at home. Barring a massive letdown, I think they find a way to win by 15+ points and cover with relative ease.
