New Mexico vs San Diego State Game Preview & Betting Odds

The Lobos are currently in the midst of a six game losing streak, most recently falling 38-35 against UNLV. New Mexico had the lead until very late in the 4th quarter before the Rebels scored a touchdown to win the game with just 25 seconds remaining. QB Armani Rogers rushed for a school record (quarterback) 193 yards and one touchdown while also passing for 200+ yards.  However, the Lobos defense played poorly again while allowing a mediocre UNLV offense to score 38 points. New Mexico has now allowed opponents to score at least 38 points in three out of their past four games. They will definitely need to be much better on Friday if they hope to somehow end their lengthy losing streak.

SDSU is coming off an impressive 42-23 victory over a vastly improved Nevada Wolf Pack. RB Rashaad Penny had a performance for the ages, racking up 429 all purpose yards and four touchdowns. Two of the four touchdowns were part of his 222 rushing yards on 24 carries, while the other two were in the return game. Penny managed to find a way to accumulate 200+ yards on just three returns all game. QB Christian Chapman, although relatively quiet against Nevada, has also been a big contributor. Chapman has passed for 1650 yards and 11 touchdowns so far on the year. On the other side of the ball, the Aztecs have looked much improved lately. SDSU has given up just 37 points total over their last three games combined.

Free College Football Against the Spread Pick: San Diego State -20

While he might not be able to match his performance against Nevada, Rashaad Penny should have another huge game this week against New Mexico. The Lobos have given up 93 points combined over their last two games. San Diego State has a balanced offense and will be extremely hungry to hit the 10-win mark in their final game of the regular season. The Lobos are only playing for pride at this point and I don’t expect this game to be even close. The Aztecs should be able to cover the 20 point spread, especially since they are also playing at home.

New Mexico is just 2-5 ATS over their last seven road games. They are also 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games. The Aztecs have been dominant almost all season long, going 7-3 ATS over their past ten games and a highly impressive 19-6-1 ATS over their past 26 games against opponents with a losing record. I fully expect those trends to continue this weekend which should likely equate in an easy victory for San Diego State.

I really feel that this game is shaping up to be a blowout. The Aztecs have now scored 40+ points in consecutive games and their offense really looks to be firing on all cylinders. New Mexico will likely not put up much of a fight in this one, especially since they will almost surely be down by a couple touchdowns early. I like San Diego State to win this game by 3+ touchdowns.
