North Carolina vs. Florida State Vegas Odds Preview

North Carolina rallied to win their third straight game, 37-36, over Pitt last week at home. Florida State bounced back from an obliteration by Louisville to down South Florida 55-35 on the road last week. This marks the 19th all-time matchup between the schools. Florida State has owned the series, 15-2-1. It was the Tar Heels taking the last matchup however. North Carolina won 37-35 in Tallahassee back in 2010. Florida State last won with a 30-27 win in Chapel Hill in 2009.

Free Pick and Betting Spread Prediction: North Carolina +10.5

Larry Fedora’s offense is firing on all cylinders: the Tar Heels average 470.8 yards and 41.3 points per game. The defense needs improvement: North Carolina gave up at least 23 points in all four games. Mitch Trubisky is 102 of 137 passing for 1,306 yards with 10 touchdown passes. The 1-2 punch of Elijah Hood (54 carries, 291 yards, 4 TD) and T.J. Logan (26 carries, 181 yards, 4 TD) is among the nation’s best. The Tar Heels are extremely deep at the receiver position. Ryan Switzer leads the team with 33 grabs for 429 yards and four scores while Bug Howard (14 catches, 210 yards, 3 TD) and Austin Proehl (15 grabs, 206 yards, TD) are solid targets. Hood has 12 grabs out of the backfield and Logan adds eight. Nick Weiler converted all 21 extra points and four of six field goals.

Redshirt freshman Deondre Francois is the man under center for Florida State. He completed 76 of 121 passes for 951 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. Dalvin Cook leads Florida State in the rushing department. He has 78 carries for 495 yards and four touchdowns. He is third on the team in receiving with 13 catches for 180 yards. Jacques Patrick (37 carries, 231 yards, 2 TD) is a capable back if given an opportunity. Travis Rudolph (16 catches, team high 233 yards, 3 TD) and Jesus Wilson (16 grabs, 220 yards) are the leading receivers for the Seminoles. Kermit Whitfield contributes nine catches for 78 yards. Ricky Aguayo stepped in for his brother Roberto, who kicks for the Buccaneers. He hit all 19 extra points and 11 of 12 field goal attempts with a long of 47 yards.

Florida State was good offensively last week but the majority of their damage was done on the ground. The Seminoles’ didn’t bowl anyone over defensively in the game as they allowed 450 yards and 35 points in the game. Florida State gets Josh Sweat back on the defensive line after he missed last week. The Seminoles struggle in pass defense. The Tar Heels move the ball through the air as well as anyone in the nation. Playing in Tallahassee gives Florida State an edge but this is still a young team with a fragile psyche and a redshirt freshman under center. I’m taking the points and North Carolina as Trubisky can throw the Tar Heels back into any game. To see additional free picks for this weekend’s slate, check us out!
