The Louisville Cardinals (5-4) travel to Raleigh, North Carolina this weekend for an ACC Atlantic battle with the NC State Wolfpack (4-5). Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST on November 16th at Carter-Finley Stadium and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
Taking a look at the Week 12 college football odds, Louisville opened as a 3.5-point road favorite earlier this week. The spread hasn’t moved at all after early betting, as the Cardinals are currently available at -3.5. The total for the game is sitting at 53 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: NC State vs Louisville
Louisville has now lost two out of their last three games after falling 52-27 on the road against Miami last weekend to drop to 5-4 on the season overall. The Cardinals gave up five touchdowns in the first half alone and never recovered, allowing the Hurricanes to tack on 17 more points in the third quarter en route to a double-digit defeat. QB Malik Cunningham went 12/18 for 219 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while also adding a score on the ground as well. RB Javian Hawkins led the way for the backfield, rushing for 91 yards on 15 carries. Chatarius Atwell also chipped in, exploding for 142 receiving yards and a touchdown on just six catches. Overall, Louisville generated almost 500 total yards of offense and found the end zone four times despite coming up well short on the scoreboard.
The Cardinals were brutal on the other side of the ball against Miami, giving up 450 total yards of offense and seven touchdowns. Louisville had no answer for Hurricanes QB Jarren Williams, as he threw a season-high six touchdown passes.
NC State is currently in the midst of a three game losing slide, getting crushed 55-10 at home by #3 overall Clemson their last time out to fall to 4-5 on the season overall. The Wolfpack gave up 28 unanswered points in the first quarter and it was all downhill from there, as the Tigers racked up 27 more points over the final 45 minutes of the game. QB Devin Leary went 14/29 for 166 passing yards through the air while RB Zonovan Knight rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Cary Angeline led the way for the receiving corps, making two catches for 53 yards. As a whole, NC State gained just over 300 total yards of offense against a rock-solid Tigers defense.
The Wolfpack obviously struggled defensively against Clemson, getting torched for well over 550 total yards of offense and eight touchdowns. NC State couldn’t find a way to contain Tigers RB Travis Etienne on the ground, as he racked up 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 14 carries.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Louisville -3.5
I think that the Cardinals really offer decent value in this ACC clash, as they should find a way to cover this more than reasonable spread despite having to play on the road here in Week 12. Neither team has been all that impressive so far this season, as both are currently hovering around the .500 mark through their first nine games. However, NC State has not fared well at all against the spread this year, going just 2-6-1 ATS overall. While they have gone undefeated at home through their first four outings at Carter-Finley Stadium, those victories also came against East Carolina, WCU, Ball State, and Syracuse – hardly stellar competition.

The biggest reason why I’m leaning towards laying the points and rolling with the Cardinals in this particular spot involves how drastically different each school performed against Wake Forest earlier this season. The Wolfpack got embarrassed 44-10 by the Demon Deacons while Louisville beat them outright in a thrilling shootout back in mid-October. The Cardinals also prevailed over Boston College, the same team that crushed NC State 45-24 earlier in the season. Ultimately, I feel way more comfortable backing Louisville against the spread in this ACC matchup – give me the Cardinals to cover!
