Taking a look at the Week 12 college football odds, Ohio State opened as a 16.5-point road favorite earlier this week. That line has shifted by half a point after early betting, as the Buckeyes are currently listed at -16.5. The total for the game is sitting at 57 points.

Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Maryland vs Ohio State

Ohio State improved to 9-1 on the season last weekend after knocking off Michigan State 26-6 on the road. The Buckeyes still have a shot to win the Big Ten East if they can find a way to take care of business against the Terps and win their showdown with Michigan in Week 13. QB Dwayne Haskins was pretty mediocre against a tough Spartans defense, going 24/39 for 227 yards. He has been enjoying a fantastic season though, as he has thrown for 3,280 yards and 33 touchdowns in just 10 games. The big story for Ohio State in Week 11 was the impressive performance by RB Mike Weber, who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown against the best run defense in the entire country. He and J.K. Dobbins have played well all year, as Dobbins leads the team with 712 yards and seven touchdowns. K.J. Hill and Parris Campbell have combined for 1,406 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in the passing game. Overall, the offense is currently averaging 40.6 points per game (11th overall).

The Buckeyes have also been extremely solid on the other side of the ball, allowing opponents to score an average of just 22.0 points per game (32nd overall). However, they have struggled a little bit against the pass so far this season, giving up 241.9 yards per game through the air (82nd overall).

Maryland dropped back to .500 on the season last weekend after a crushing 34-32 loss to Indiana. The Terps need just one more win to become bowl eligible, but play Ohio State and Penn State back to back in their final two games. There is no doubt the game against the Hoosiers was a must win, as the chances of a sixth victory now seem pretty remote. Starting QB Kasim Hill was just 4/12 for 43 yards and an interception in Week 11 before tearing his ACL and being forced to leave the game. Backup Tyrrell Pigrome played well in relief, going 10 of 13 for 146 yards. RB Anthony McFarland was a monster out of the backfield, rushing for a career-best 210 yards on 29 carries. As a whole, Maryland is currently averaging 28.8 points per game (69th overall). They have been fantastic on the ground, averaging 234.9 rushing yards per game (20th overall).

On the other side of the ball, the Terrapins are currently giving up a respectable 25.4 points per game on 343.2 yards per game. 36.1 points per game (112th overall). They have really done a great job against the pass through ten games, surrendering just 181.8 yards per game through the air (18th overall).

NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Maryland +16.5

I was almost 100% sold on taking the Buckeyes to cover the spread in this particular spot prior to digging a little bit deeper. Ohio State hasn’t been as explosive on offense in the second half of the year, and there have also been several times when they have looked sluggish – especially on the road. Not only did they lose to Purdue several weeks ago, they also have only won their last three games by an average of 13.6 points. Maryland is in full desperation mode right now, as they need just one more victory to hit the magic number of six. The other thing to keep in mind with the Terps is that they have 23 seniors on their roster currently. Seniors day is always an emotional time – I’m fully expecting that they will bring their A-game and leave it all on the table one final time at home.

Maryland is a solid 4-1 ATS over their last five games following an against the spread loss. They also have a better overall record against the spread this season than Ohio State. The Buckeyes are just 2-5 ATS over their past seven road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six conference games.

The Terrapins have also really played well at home this year, going 4-2 ATS over their last six games at Maryland Stadium. Ohio State also might get caught looking ahead to their big Week 13 showdown with Michigan. While the Buckeyes should still escape with a victory, I think the Terps will certainly put up a bit of a fight. I’m taking the free points and expecting the home team to cover the number in this matchup – give me Maryland.
