The South Alabama Jaguars will get a rare chance to host a Power 5 program. On Friday night the Jaguars will host the No. 10 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 8:00 EST at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will be televised on ESPN2.
Oddsmakers opened with Oklahoma State as a 25.5-point favorite. Early money has poured in on the Cowboys, as some books now have them at -28.5. The total for this contest is 64.5 points. Click here for a full list of Week 2 betting odds and links to game previews.
Oklahoma State vs South Alabama Betting Preview & Odds
The Cowboys were never threatened in a 59-24 blowout win at home to open the season against Tulsa. Oklahoma State easily covered the spread of 19.5, as they led 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. This one also flew over the total of 70.5, as the two combined for 83 points.
All kinds of big plays for the Cowboys offensively, as their first 4 touchdowns were all plays of 40 or more yards. Defense played better than you might think just looking at the boxscore. Tulsa had a non-offensive touchdown and most of their yards came once the game was out of reach.
The Jaguars opened up on the road against Ole Miss. They went into the half trailing by a score of just 10-13, but the Rebels responded with a 34-3 run to start the 2nd half. That had Ole Miss up 47-13 in the 4th quarter. South Alabama scored two late touchdowns to close the game to 27-47 and cover as a 21.5-point dog. The game also went well over the total of 59.5.
Overall another strong showing for the Jaguars against a Power 5 opponent. Last year they started the season with a 21-20 win at Mississippi State. They also had a 42-24 win at home over No. 19 San Diego State on last season’s resume.
Free NCAA Football Pick Against the Spread: South Alabama +28.5
With the early line movement pushing this spread over 4-touchdowns, I would have to lean towards taking South Alabama and the points. South Alabama head coach Joey Jones has got his team to step up their game against the big boys on the road. Now they get a chance to host one of these Power 5 teams on a Friday night with the whole nation watching.
Even off a game against SEC foe Ole Miss, I expect the Jaguars to be 100% locked in and to give it all they got in this one. Crazy things tend to happen in these weekday night games with home dogs.

Oklahoma State really came out focused against Tulsa after losing at home last year to Central Michigan. I question whether or not they can keep that edge given how easy it was against the Golden Hurricanes this perceived to be a much easier opponent. Let’s also not overlook they have a much bigger test on deck at Pittsburgh.
I know the Cowboys offense has the potential to be special, but South Alabama just got a great warm up for this one against Ole Miss. They held the Rebels to just 47 points and that was with Ole Miss scoring 27 in the 3rd. If they can keep Oklahoma State around 50, I like their chances of scoring in the low to mid 20’s.
You also have to like that South Alabama didn’t commit a single turnover against a SEC defense and never gave up. There’s a decent chance they get another backdoor cover with a couple more late scores in the 4th quarter.
