The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-3) travel to Norman this weekend for a BIG 12 clash against the #5 overall Oklahoma Sooners (6-0). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on October 19th at The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and the game will be nationally televised on FOX.
Taking a look at the Week 8 college football odds, Oklahoma opened as a 33-point home favorite earlier this week. That spread has increased by half a point after early betting, as the Sooners are currently listed at -33.5. The total for the game is sitting at 63 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Oklahoma vs West Virginia
West Virginia lost their second straight game last weekend, falling 38-14 at home against Iowa State to drop back to 3-3 on the season overall. The Mountaineers trailed by just a singled touchdown heading into the fourth quarter but completely fell apart down the stretch, giving up 17 unanswered points over the final 15 minutes of the game. QB Jack Allison was 18/24 for 140 yards and a touchdown while RB Leddie Brown only managed to gain 26 rushing yards on a team-high 10 carries on the ground. T.J. Simmons led the way for the receiving corps, making five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. Overall, the West Virginia offense gained less than 200 total yards and scored just a single touchdown in a double-digit loss.
The Mountaineers defense also had a rough outing against Iowa State, giving up under 400 total yards of offense and five touchdowns. West Virginia had no answer for Cyclones RB Breece Hall on the ground, as he racked up 132 rushing yards and three touchdowns on a game-high 26 carries.
Oklahoma stayed perfect on the season last weekend after an impressive 34-27 road win over #15 overall Texas moved them to 6-0 overall. The Sooners led by just a single field goal in the third quarter before scoring two touchdowns over the final 15 minutes to put the game out of reach late. QB Jalen Hurts went 16/28 for 235 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while also adding a whopping 131 rushing yards and another score on the ground. RB Kennedy Brooks also found success running the football, racking up 105 yards on just ten carries. CeeDee Lamb absolutely torched the Longhorns secondary, hauling in ten receptions for 171 yards and three touchdowns. As a whole, the Oklahoma offense generated more than 500 total yards and found the end zone four times against a below average Longhorns defense.
The Sooners defense wasn’t at their best against a high-flying Texas offense, surrendering over 300 total yards and three touchdowns. However, they did do a great job slowing down the Longhorns passing attack, as QB Sam Ehlinger threw for only 210 yards and didn’t complete a single touchdown pass all game.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: OVER 63
As much as I think that Oklahoma should have little to no problem completely running away with this game against a West Virginia squad that is only .500 overall on the season, I’m still not overly crazy about laying 33.5 points. While I certainly don’t see a ton of value with the Sooners in this spot, there is also no way that I’m going to roll the dice and take a shot with the Mountaineers on the road here in Week 8 either. Therefore, the OVER on 63 total points scored is the only play from this BIG 12 clash that I’m even remotely interested in. Both offenses have no problem putting up big numbers on the scoreboard in a hurry, as Oklahoma has scored 34+ points in six straight games while WVU has scored at least 29 points in three out of their six outings so far this year.

It is also important to note that the total has gone OVER in seven out of the last eight meetings between these two BIG 12 rivals – and in each of their last five meetings since 2014. The OVER has also come through in eight of West Virginia’s last 12 games overall and five out of their last seven road games. Finally, the OVER has also hit in five consecutive home games for Oklahoma as well. I’m going to avoid both teams against the spread in a matchup that the Sooners should control throughout in favor of the OVER on 63 total points.
