Packers vs Lions Game Odds & Betting Preview
The Lions came up just short at home against Kansas City their last time out, falling 34-30 to drop to 2-1-1 on the season overall. Detroit fought hard but couldn’t find a way to overcome a 14-point onslaught by the Chiefs in the fourth quarter, scoring just a single touchdown over the final 15 minutes. QB Matthew Stafford played quite well, going 21/34 for 291 yards and three touchdowns. RB Kerryon Johnson had a big outing as well, rushing for 125 yards on a team-high 26 carries. The dynamic receiving duo of Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay did their part as well, combing for 144 yards and two touchdowns. As a whole, the Lions gained almost 500 total yards and scored three touchdowns in a losing cause.
Detroit had a rough outing on the other side of the ball, giving up 438 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. While the Lions found a way to keep Patrick Mahomes from throwing a single touchdown through the air, they did give up a multi-touchdown performance to Darrel Williams.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers have won four out of their first five games on the season after an impressive 34-24 road victory over the Cowboys last weekend. Green Bay scored 17 unanswered points in the first half and never looked back, scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter en route to a double-digit win. QB Aaron Rodgers played well despite missing WR Davante Adams, going 22/34 for 238 yards. RB Aaron Jones had a massive game on the ground, exploding for 182 total yards of offense and four touchdowns. Overall, the Packers generated over 350 total yards against a shell-shocked Dallas defense.
Green Bay didn’t have a great outing on defense in Week 5, allowing the Cowboys to rack up well over 550 total yards of offense and score three touchdowns. However, they did do a great job pressuring Dallas QB Dak Prescott, as they forced several turnovers including three critical interceptions.
Free NFL Betting Predictions and Pick: OVER 45.5
An AFC North divisional showdown on Monday Night Football is a welcome change from several weeks of less than ideal matchups featuring teams like Cleveland, Cincinnati, and the Washington. While I don’t have a strong lean against the spread, I do think that the OVER on 45.5 total points is the best play available in this spot. Both teams have been playing quite well through the first five weeks of the season, as Detroit could easily be 3-1-1 if they had received a couple more bounces go there way against Kansas City. Green Bay has also really impressed, although their hot start on defense seems to have come to an abrupt halt after giving up 58 points over their last two games.

As tempted as I am to take the Lions and the 4.5 points in what should be a close game throughout, I just don’t feel that great betting against Green Bay when they are playing at Lambeau. However, I do expect both offenses to have plenty of success in this matchup, as both teams have scored at least 27 points in back to back games. Neither defense has really been at their best lately either, giving up 24+ points per game from Week 4 onward. Recent history between these two opponents suggests there might be some offensive fireworks as well, as the total has gone OVER in seven out of their last ten meetings. I’m going to avoid both teams against the spread in favor of the OVER on 45.5 total points.
