The Miami Hurricanes (3-4) travel to Pennsylvania this weekend for an ACC Coastal matchup with the Pitt Panthers (5-2). Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on October 26th at Heinz Field and the game will be televised on ESPN.
Taking a look at the Week 9 college football odds, Pittsburgh opened as a 5.5-point home favorite earlier this week. That spread has increased by half a point after early betting, as the Panthers are currently listed at -6. The total for the game is sitting at 45 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Pitt vs Miami
Miami dropped back below the .500 mark on the season last weekend, falling 28-21 at home to Georgia Tech in overtime. The game was tied 14-14 after the first quarter and 21-21 at the half but that was all the scoring that ended up occurring during regulation, as both offenses couldn’t find a way to score even a single point in the second half. However, the Yellow Jackets scored a touchdown in their first possession of extra time and to hand the Hurricanes their fourth loss of the year. QB N’Kosi Perry went 16/28 for 188 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air while also adding another score on the ground despite rushing for just 15 yards on seven carries. Cam’Ron Harris turned in a decent performance, racking up 136 rushing yards on a team-high 18 carries. Harris also found the end zone on one of his three receptions for 31 yards. As a whole, Miami gained over 350 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns despite coming up short on the scoreboard.
The Hurricanes had an average outing on the other side of the ball against Georgia Tech, giving up almost 350 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Miami really struggled to slow down Yellow Jackets RB Jordan Mason on the ground, as he rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on a game-high 20 carries.
Pitt won their fourth game in a row last weekend, beating Syracuse 27-20 on the road to improve to 5-2 on the season overall. The Panthers took a 24-6 lead in the second quarter and managed to hold on down the stretch despite getting outscored 14-3 over the final 30 minutes of the game. QB Kenny Pickett went 18/33 for 232 yards and two touchdowns through the air to lead the way for the passing attack. RB A.J. Davis also had a good game, rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown on a team-high 16 carries. Overall, Pitt generated almost 400 total yards of offense and scored three touchdowns in the victory.
The Panthers were fairly average defensively against Syracuse, giving up almost 350 total yards of offense and two touchdowns. Pitt had no answer for speedy WR Taj Harris, as he torched the secondary for 111 yards and a touchdown on just three catches.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Pittsburgh -6
I think that the Panthers are currently a pretty decent value in this particular spot, as they have really played well for the most part this season. Pitt needs a big win here in Week 9 to keep pace with Virginia atop the ACC Coastal division standings, as both teams have identical 5-2 records but the Cavaliers currently have an extra win in conference play. Miami has been very inconsistent this year, especially on defense where they have really taken a few steps back through their first seven games. The Hurricanes have allowed 79 points over their last three games combined, including giving up 40+ to Virginia Tech in the first week of October.

Miami is just 5-10 against the spread over their last 15 games overall, which certainly doesn’t bode well for them heading into this tough road matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes have also really struggled against the spread when facing ACC opponents, going only 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games. On the other side, Pitt is a very solid 5-1 against the spread over their last six games overall. They are also 7-1 straight up in their last eight games at home. Although I do expect Miami to keep things close for at least a couple of quarters, I still think that the Panthers should find a way to win this game and cover the spread. I’ll lay the six points and roll with the home favorite in this ACC Coastal clash – give me Pittsburgh!
