The Purdue Boilermakers (1-4) host the Maryland Terrapins (3-2) this weekend for a BIG 10 battle from West Lafayette. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM EST on Saturday, October 12th at Ross-Ade Stadium and the game will be televised on the BIG 10 Network.
Taking a look at the Week 7 college football odds, Maryland opened as a 4-point road favorite earlier this week. That spread has increased by half a point after early betting, as the Terrapins are currently listed at -4.5. The total for the game is sitting at 58 points.
Vegas Betting Preview & Game Odds: Purdue vs Maryland
Maryland snapped their two game losing streak last weekend, crushing Rutgers 48-7 on the road to get back above .500 overall on the season. The Terrapins jumped out to a big 27-7 lead in the second quarter and never looked back, scoring three more touchdowns over the final 30 minutes of the game while also completely shutting out the Scarlet Knights as well. Tyrrell Pigrome and Josh Jackson combined for 280 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air, while Anthony McFarland Jr. and Javon Leake racked up 142 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Dontay Demus led the way for the receiving corps, hauling in three receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Maryland generated almost 500 total yards of offense and scored six touchdowns against a shell-shocked Rutgers defense.
The Terrapins defense also turned in an impressive performance in Week 6, giving up just over 300 total yards of offense and only one touchdown to the Scarlet Knights. Maryland really did a fantastic job defending against the pass, holding Rutgers QB Johnny Langan to 163 passing yards and forcing him to throw two interceptions.
Purdue lost their third consecutive game last weekend, falling 35-7 on the road to #10 overall Penn State. The Boilermakers gave up 21 unanswered points in the first quarter and never recovered, scoring just a single touchdown the rest of the way. QB Jack Plummer was only 13/27 for 119 yards and one touchdown while RB King Doerue was held to just 26 rushing yards over 11 carries on the ground. David Bell made three receptions for 56 receiving yards to lead the way for Purdue’s pass-catchers. As a whole, the offense could only muster 144 total yards and one touchdown against a very solid Nittany Lions defense.
The Boilermakers also had a rough outing defensively in Week 6, giving up over 450 total yards and five touchdowns. Purdue got torched on the ground, allowing Penn State to rack up almost 200 rushing yards and score two rushing touchdowns.
NCAA Football Betting Predictions & Free Pick: Maryland -4.5
The Terrapins appear to have turned things around after a tough two week stretch where they got outscored 79-17. Maryland really looked solid on both sides of the ball in Week 6, scoring almost 50 points while only giving up a single touchdown. Things haven’t gone quite as smoothly for Purdue, as they haven’t won since the first week of September. The Boilermakers have also given up at least 34 points over that same time span, while scoring 13 points or less in two out of those three loses. I think the Terps currently offer the best value in this matchup, as they have certainly been the more consistent team over the last several weeks of the season. While Ross-Ade Stadium is always a difficult environment to play in, Maryland is a perfect 2-0 against the spread over their last two meetings with Purdue overall.

The Boilermakers are also just 3-6 ATS over their last nine games overall and 1-2 against the spread in their last three games at home. On the other side, the Terrapins haven’t lost outright against Purdue in two consecutive games. Even if the home team can find a way to keep things close for the first couple of quarters, I think that Maryland should be able to pull away late against a well-below average Boilermakers defense. I’ll lay the 4.5 points and roll with the slight road favorite – give me the Terrapins to cover here in Week 7.
